Creep - Radiohead (Cover) by @yisusth [ENG/SPA]

One of the challenges of our humanity is not feeling good enough for something or someone. Today I'm sharing a performance with the trumpet of «Creep», a song by the British band Radiohead that mixes genres such as alternative rock, grunge and post-grunge. I've always felt a connection to grunge bands like Nirvana, and Pearl Jam. This piece of music is in G major, with a B major chord giving it a modal feel known as mixolydian. It has a plagal cadence or harmonic progression I-III-IV-iv, very common in pop music. The melody is simple and repetitive. The lyrics are about feeling like an outsider and not good enough, with feelings of doubt, insecurity, and loneliness. Due to its honesty and simple message, people quickly connect with the song. On a few occasions I have had the opportunity to play alongside highly experienced professional musicians, and I have felt less skilled and prepared than them.

Uno de los retos de nuestra humanidad es no sentirse lo suficientemente bueno para algo o para alguien. Hoy les comparto una interpretación con la trompeta de «Creep», canción de la banda británica Radiohead que mezcla géneros como el Rock alternativo, el ​grunge y el ​post-grunge. Siempre he sentido conexión con bandas de grunge como Nirvana, y Pearl Jam. Esta pieza musical se encuentra en G mayor, con un acorde de B mayor que le una sensación modal conocida como mixolidio. Tiene una cadencia plagal o progresión armonia I-III-IV-iv, muy común en la música pop. La melodía es simple y repetitiva. La letra trata sobre sentirse como un extraño y no lo suficientemente bueno, con sentimientos de duda, inseguridad y soledad. Debido a la honestidad y a su mensaje sencillo, las personas se conectan rápidamente con la canción. En algunas ocasiones he tenido la oportunidad de tocar junto a músicos profesionales con gran experiencia, y me he sentido menos hábil y preparado que ellos.

It is important not to compare yourself with others. It can be frustrating to compare ourselves to other musicians. That lowers our self-esteem, and brings us feelings of insecurity. There are differences between human beings and we must recognize that they exist. Each one is on a different rung of the ladder, some are starting, others are on their way to the limitless summit of success. In order to grow as artists we must compare how we were in the past to how we are today, and even think about how we want to be in the future. We must not be discouraged when we are wrong, we must continue learning and cultivating our skills. When a door closes on us, we must be attentive to others that open for us. I love the motto "Touch and fight" of the National System of Youth and Children's Orchestras and Choirs of Venezuela. That's what it's all about, we can be good enough by practicing, and strive to improve every day.

Es importante no compararse con los demás. Puede ser frustrante compararnos con otros músicos. Eso disminuye nuestra autoestima, y nos trae sentimientos de inseguridad. Existen diferencias entre los seres humanos y debemos reconocer que existen. Cada uno está en un peldaño diferente de la escalera, unos están comenzando, otros están en camino hacia la cumbre ilimitada del éxito. Para poder crecer como artistas debemos comparar cómo éramos en el pasado a cómo somos hoy, e incluso pensar cómo queremos ser en el futuro. No hay que desanimarse cuando nos equivocamos, debemos seguir aprendiendo y cultivando nuestras habilidades. Cuando una puerta se nos cierra, debemos estar atentos a otras que se nos abren. Me encanta el lema “Tocar y luchar” de El Sistema Nacional de Orquestas y Coros Juveniles e Infantiles de Venezuela. De eso se trata, podemos ser suficientemente buenos al practicar, y esforzarse por mejorar cada día.
