Hive Open Mic Week #284 | White Flag - Dido (Cover) by @yisusth
A warm greeting to everyone in this beautiful Open Mic community. In this week #284, we explore the theme: “Come Back”. I am pleased to share my trumpet performance of “White Flag”, a pop song with Trip Hop influences composed by Dido Armstrong, Rollo Armstrong, and Rick Nowels in 2003. It was inspired by a past relationship of Dido's. The lyrics talk about not giving up emotionally and continuing to love deeply. This piece is in the key of F Major; in my case, I play it in G Major. The melody has an incomparable warmth and softness. The tempo is moderate with a constant pulse and a 4/4 time signature. When this song came out, it was like the rise of MTV, and social networks did not yet exist. My first contact with the music of this artist was in the 1999 series “Roswell”, and the song “Here With Me”. I loved watching this series for its supernatural drama and its teenage science fiction.

There are so many needs we have to go back, to be reborn, and reconnect with our roots, with who we are, with who we were, and with who we want to be. Along the path of life, we stray, whether due to personal decisions, those of others, trials, or natural causes. Then, the need arises to embark again on the right path. I don't really believe in the phrase that one returns to where one was happy, because in the end, life passes, friends change, and the landscape is different. But we can reconcile, rebuild, and restore what has been broken. Forgiving and being forgiven isn't a step backward; it's a virtue that makes us move forward. People often have a hard time closing cycles, and it's healing to try again. Many songs make us go back and remember unforgettable moments. I hope you take me back to 2003 with my performance.

White Flag
I know you think that I shouldn't still love you
I'll tell you that
But if I didn't say it, well, I'd still have felt it
Where's the sense in that?
I promise I'm not trying to make your life harder
Or return to where we were
But I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be
I know I left too much mess and destruction
To come back again
And I caused nothing but trouble
I understand if you can't talk to me again
And if you live by the rules of "It's over"
Then I'm sure that that makes sense
But I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be
And when we meet
Which I'm sure we will
All that was there
Will be there still
I'll let it pass
And hold my tongue
And you will think
That I've moved on
I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be
I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be
I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be

I think for me, this song was made popular by its use in Eminem's song, Stan.
Only you can play this sublime and calm melody on the trumpet! Bravo!!!, this song is immortal ❤️
