A greeting to everyone in the music community. I am pleased to share my trumpet interpretation of "Fernando", a pop ballad by the Swedish group ABBA, composed of Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus, and Stig Anderson. It was first recorded in Swedish, and then in English as part of the album "Arrival" (1976). The song is a conversation full of nostalgia, friendship, and sacrifice between two war veterans of the Mexican Revolution. Before recording it, I found a version in the key of B Major, and then I found this version in C Major. The melody is emotional, nostalgic, and melancholic, with a moderate tempo in 4/4 time. I think this song has a great lesson in overvaluing our battles. Life has taught me that a lost battle does not define who we are. Everyone has their own battle; in some cases, they fight addictions, prejudices, and health problems.

Music has been, is, and will always be the answer. In these days of conflict, it is right and necessary to promote peace and heal hearts in the aftermath. Some may think it's just for entertainment, but it is an instrument for peace, for resistance and support for just causes. We live in a globalized, interconnected yet dehumanized world. Everyone lives their own life, disconnected from reality. We have left peace to a few madmen who have the responsibility of leading the world. We shouldn't remain oblivious to what's happening in the world, nor should we think it's a lost cause. We can connect hearts through music. There are more of us who are good, even if it seems otherwise. Music invites us to reflect, to humanize and raise awareness. Furthermore, music helps us visualize injustices and provide answers to conflicts. I hope you enjoy this song this week.

Fernando

Can you hear the drums, Fernando?
I remember, long ago, another starry night like this
In the firelight, Fernando
You were humming to yourself and softly strumming your guitar
I could hear the distant drums and sounds of bugle calls were coming from afar

They were closer now, Fernando
Every hour, every minute seemed to last eternally
I was so afraid, Fernando
We were young and full of life and none of us prepared to die
And I'm not ashamed to say the roar of guns and cannons almost made me cry

There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, Fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, Fernando
Though we never thought that we could lose
There's no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando

Now we're old and grey, Fernando
Since many years I haven't seen a rifle in your hand
Can you hear the drums, Fernando?
Do you still recall the fateful night we crossed the Rio Grande?
I can see it in your eyes, how proud you were to fight for freedom in this land

There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, Fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, Fernando
Though I never thought that we could lose
There's no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando
There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, Fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, Fernando
Though I never thought that we could lose
There's no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando
Yes, if I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando

If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando
