Hive Open Mic Week #295 | Do You Hear What I Hear? - Gloria Shayne (Cover) by @yisusth

A Christmas greeting to this beautiful community. In Hive Open Mic #295, we explore the theme: "A Different World." I am pleased to share my trumpet interpretation of «Do You Hear What I Hear?», a beautiful Christmas carol composed by Gloria Shayne Baker and Noël Regney in October 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Imagine the kind of global tension over a nuclear war. The lyrics talk about the birth of Jesus, the announcement to the shepherds, and several references to biblical passages about the promised Messiah. I have had the opportunity to listen to orchestral and choral versions, such as those by Bing Crosby, Whitney Houston, Andrea Bocelli, Bob Dylan, and the Tabernacle Choir. It is likely composed in C major; in my case, I perform it in D major with a modulation to E major. The melody is dynamic, flowing, and hopeful. The tempo is moderate with a 4/4 time signature and a smooth, balanced rhythm.

I love this week's theme. I believe the spirit of this song is to focus on the light and the message of peace that Christmas brings. In contrast to the chaos of the world, Christ brings us peace, hope, and unity. We can all contribute to a different world, and it starts in every home. At this time of year, we can remember the true reason for this celebration. It's not the lights, nor the shopping, nor the traditional dishes. The story of Jesus speaks to us of redemption, love, and hope. This season is a wonderful opportunity to gather with family, strengthen bonds, and serve our neighbors. This is a time to set priorities and do what truly matters. Miracles can happen in our lives this Christmas, our hearts change, and the world changes. I hope you enjoy this beautiful performance. My best wishes for a different world.

Do You Hear What I Hear?
Said the night wind to the little lamb
"Do you see what I see?
Way up in the sky, little lamb
Do you see what I see?
A star, a star, dancin' in the night
With a tail as big as a kite
With a tail as big as a kite"
Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy
"Do you hear what I hear?
Ringin' through the sky, shepherd boy
Do you hear what I hear?
A song, a song, high above the tree
With a voice as big as the sea
With a voice as big as the sea"
Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king
"Do you know what I know?
In your palace warm, mighty king
Do you know what I know?
A Child, a Child shivers in the cold
Let us bring Him silver and gold
Let us bring Him silver and gold"
Said the king to the people everywhere
"Listen to what I say
Pray for peace, people everywhere
Listen to what I say
A Child, a Child, sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light
He will bring us goodness and light"
