It's been a Long, Long, Long time, right? But there are reasons for that, as I'm on a healing journey and navigating through changes, and finding again my love for music. So here is my tribute cover and music video of Long, Long, Long Time by Tears for Fears. A moody, autumnal, ethereal version. It was filmed barely weeks ago while all leaves were still suspended in their branches but ready to fall.

Why did I choose this one? My own interpretation of the song

This time that I've been away trying to find myself I've recorded some songs for pure fun. Of course I am not and won't be neglecting my original songs, but I found myself humming songs that reflected my own mood and as everyone know the healing power of music, this one came to be significant during this while and technical pause. So this one is a cover of my favourite band "Tears for Fears"

Though the words are ambiguous enough to have many interpretations, and could be easily also taken as a relation with someone else, or "couple falling apart" as Tears for Fears music video for it suggested, for me they resonated entirely differently with me as a battle with myself after a "long time of stagnation" too, as the title clearly suggests a prolonged period of challenges or difficulties and our journey through life's highs and lows and the resilience of my spirit enduring life's trials and challenges. I used to sing this song in moments of introspection and though it has a bitter taste it also highlights the complexities of emotions, with others, and with ourselves. The mountains and falls symbolizing the setbacks in life, the obstacles we face and the need of resolution in the face of adversities. There is always an underlying level of conflict, uncertainty, and searching for understanding and the lyrics go on with other verses I've not sung that reinforce the idea of the need of taking risks in personal growth or making difficult decisions not knowing the outcome. And that's precisely where I am now as I embarked on a healing journey to find again clarity, honesty, and a sense of direction. So, though I don't know if that was the songwriters' intention (written by Curt Smith, Roland Orzábal and C. Pettus) I reinterpreted as a journey of self exploration and introspection, a quest to embrace the vulnerability of my own emotions, and admitting and accepting it's been a long time I've been dealing with things that demand change and though this internal battles are not easily won, the mere acknowledgment of it is the path for growth... and change, and the time and persistence required for that change to be meaningful (and lasting)

As a hint of what will be another post, and the main reason I've been mostly absent from socials, this Summer and Autumn I started to break all habits, and trying to bring order into my inner turmoil and chaos... so I've been away, grinding in silence, writing down, plotting, trying to commit and working on so many things on so many levels. And with this little snippet of a song, I can positively say I start to see the positive results of such efforts, because you know, It had been a "long, long, long time"

Also in the chorus the heart is mentioned as key element in the chorus, and there's a contrast between two apparently contradictory holding on and letting go and that is the part we'll never know or fully understand (our own and other's) as human relations are both so complex and intricate. There is always a stark contrast there, and sometimes we need to know that mysterious and shifting quality that makes our hearts an enigma, a mystery. And when I say heart, I mean spirit.

Choosing to cover this song becomes a profound expression of my personal healing journey and the deliberate transformation of habits and a poignant reflection of the challenges I've encountered while trying to break free from old patterns.

This was filmed this month, so it reflects the landscape with the current autumnal palette. Autumn is one of my favourite times of the year, because though leaves must be shed, dead leaves also nourish the soil for new things to grow. Also the moody overcast day was perfect to convey the mysterious and metaphorical. I often come up here to walk and think, and I always wonder about that deserted cabin. It was this year that the roof finally collapsed. I had previously filmed a little snippet up there (a more cheerful one) some years prior where you can see the roof was still intact. So unfortunately after standing for such a "long, long, long time" it collapsed due to pressure. But out of the wreckage you can read its story.
Thanks to @hedac and JAC for the drone shots (I want to save for a drone for videos now, snif) but these takes feels fancy, and though this is a familiar place for me and I come often, it feels a totally different angle, and that also reflects that "change" that is undergoing. Things might seem the "same" and still be "different"

Tears for Fears is my favourite band so there's a playlist of the covers I've done so far

If you follow me here you may have realized this is not the first cover of Tears for Fears I record. There are several other tributes scattered among my posts and on my youtube channel. I guess we all have our "childhood artist or band" and for me they remain my favourite. Last year, 2022, they released a new album "The Tipping Point" precisely after a "long, long, long time" (18 YEARS) and for me it was one of the best gifts because it was as good as I had expected and this is in fact the second cover from the new album. Though I make my own original music, I have always acknowledged them as one of my influences, so all versions are shorter and just tributes only for youtube/patreon.
So far I've covered these songs from the band: Mad World, Swords and Knives, The Tipping Point, My Point being, Ghosts are Gone (Los Reyes Católicos) and now Long, Long, Long time.
