I've taken a liking to this type of post, as it forces me to find some anchor in the music of the feelings that have passed through me this day and last week.

Today I want to share three songs in Portuguese, my mother tongue.

The first is by a group that is well known in Portugal, having stood out for their profound poetry, with feelings that evoke the deepest of feelings. In this song, the Portuguese guitar and the cavaquinho are two of the string instruments used, and we immediately realize that their function is more than eminent.

The story recounts the adventures of a sailor, who at heart is an allegory for all of us who sail the world... a little adrift, but always wanting to reach a beach with everything we need. The will to live sometimes overrides the despair of not achieving what he wants to achieve.

Samuel Úria is the Portuguese artist I'm sharing here. And this song in particular has been on repeat for weeks! When I went in to work, I would put it on my computer and play it... Those were anxious days, we were in 2020, and Covid and the uncertainties of life led me to this more emotional side. Once again, the strings are the main artist... What do you feel when you hear this song? Even if you don't understand the lyrics... Can you feel its vibration in your spirit?

Grapefruit is the third group I've shared with you here... This song is just brilliant to me! Just listening to the first twenty seconds gives me chicken skin. Tiago Bettencourt's timbre is something very particular, and of unparalleled depth and clarity. The story of an unrequited love for someone who couldn't make it in life leaves the listener with a feeling of longing or nostalgia.... Let yourself travel, even if you don't understand the lyrics.

What did you think of this little collection of Portuguese songs? They're by contemporary and recent artists. One of these days I'm going to publish a collection of Portuguese artists from the 80s and 90s! I'm already trying to choose just three songs to represent such a prolific period in terms of national musical production.

Thank you for accompanying me on this journey to times that have passed, but that I always try to recapture by listening to these tracks.

The post goes for Three Tune Tuesday challenge run by @ablaze. Don't be a stranger, and join the musical weekly ride!

Bem Hajam🍀
