Three Tune Tuesday ~ Tom Ogden ~ Birthday Boy #88
Welcome to my #TTT #ThreeTuneTuesday entry!
Hello everyone, and good afternoon!
How have you all been?
How is your week going?
I hope it hasn’t been too hectic. As for my week—and for at least the past 15 days—I’ve been having some trouble responding to the comments you’ve been leaving on my posts, which, fortunately, and with some effort—I confess—I’ve been managing to keep up with daily.
I promise, however, that I will respond to all your comments and mentions from the past nearly 10 days that I haven’t replied to yet.
That said, and as some of you who follow me may already know, today is Tuesday, and the week is still just beginning... But there’s no need to despair! No! This week is much shorter; Friday just happens to be a holiday. It’s going to feel really good to have a three-day weekend.
I have quite a few things piling up. And the longer it goes on, the more it piles up. I feel like I’m losing a bit of control, but I’m not panicking. Hopefully, this extra day will give me a chance to catch up on everything, starting with tidying up the house.
Fortunately, I’m managing to prepare my own meals, and I’m not resorting to processed foods or buying ready-made meals. Which, for me, has several advantages. The first is that it gives us control over not only the quantity of ingredients but also the quality of the ingredients used, and we end up being present and mindful that we’re providing our bodies with nourishment, not just eating anything. That said, when the house needs cleaning and tidying up, it doesn’t feel as burdensome as it would if I were also failing to maintain a careful and disciplined diet. The financial aspect is equally important, since for a fraction of the price of a ready-made meal, we can buy ingredients to make two or three times the amount of food—and with better flavor.
Now back to the topic of music! This week’s birthday boy is Tom Odgen. Tom turns 33 today; he’s an English musician, singer, and songwriter who’s part of the British indie-pop band “Blossoms,” which, until now, I hadn’t heard of. Tom’s life was somehow destined for this path. From a very young age—at just 8 years old—he wrote his first song, which was about the European Soccer Championship… imagine that!
This vocalist has a somewhat distinctive vocal tone, characterized by an expression and presence that nevertheless brings to mind other voices in today’s music scene, such as Snow Patrol.
Since this artist and this band were, until today, completely unknown to me, I can’t say or write much more about him or the band without repeating information that you can all look up directly on any search engine.
I’m now going to share three of the most iconic songs by this British band, founded in 2013. I hope you enjoy them. I’ll also leave you with a quote from the opening of the music video for the first song, “Charlemagne”:
“Time is the only true purgatory.”
Samuel Butler, 1835–1902
