Three Tune Tuesday ~ The Human League ~ Adrian Wright ~ Birthday Boy #97

The day is almost over, but I’m not about to let another Tuesday go by without posting something here in this community!

How’s your week going so far? Is everything going well? A lot is happening around here when it comes to weather events… Europe is going through a very difficult period with extreme temperatures across many latitudes in various European countries. Some countries and cities have already broken all-time high temperature records since temperature records began.

Here in Portugal, even though we went through a heat wave just a little less than three weeks ago, maximum temperatures are expected to hover around 40 degrees in some cities across the country over the next few days, through Friday. But the problem won’t be so much the maximum temperatures as the narrow temperature range, which will mean we’ll spend our nights with temperatures above 20°C. In other words, we’re in for some truly tropical nights.

But let’s move on to the topic of today’s post. Today, singer Philip Adrian Wright turns 70. In 1978, he was invited to join the avant-garde band “The Human League.” At that time, Wright was brought on as visual director to produce the entire lighting design for the shows that “The Human League” was set to perform.

When the group split in 1980 to form two bands, “The Human League” and “Heaven 17,” Wright found himself forced to become a musician, teaching himself to play keyboards.

He ended up co-producing many of the songs with Oakey, including the one I’m sharing here today—a track well known to everyone: “Don’t You Want Me.”

Wright remained with the group until 1986, by which time he was one of the band’s key members. He then moved into the film industry and later into design.

In 1982, he won a Brit Award as a member of “The Human League” for Best British Breakthrough Act of the Year.
