A musical Saturday afternoon

How are you? It's been a long time since I've posted anything, and I've had little or no interaction with the community... This week is my second week on holiday. And since I was able to rest during the first week, I'm going to try to be a little more active...

Today I want to share with you an experience I had last June. I'm on a mailing list for a cultural association based in Lisbon. And although I don't exactly live in central Lisbon, the cultural programes run by the association are free of charge, making my trip much more desirable, not only because it's culture at "zero" cost, but also because of the variety of shows on offer to the general public.

The classical music concert I attended, entitled "10th Youth Festival", featured a range of musical pieces from Schostakovich to Webern and Schubert, magnificently played by youngsters Diana Esteves, Inês Marques (violin), Pedro Pires (viola) and Tiago Mirra (cello).

The venue for the performance was the Marquês do Alegrete Palace, located in Campo das Amoreiras, a sumptuous palace that has been restored and handed over to the Santa Casa da Misericórdia, where various cultural activities are usually held, including theater, photography and painting exhibitions, concerts, discussion forums, etc.

The walls of this palace are carefully decorated with floral motifs, arranged in numerous high-ceilinged rooms with unusual acoustics.

As for the show itself, the audience (around 25 people) was treated to a fantastic performance by this quartet of promising young musicians who are part of the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra's Postgraduate Programme in Advanced Orchestral Performance.

The whole atmosphere, almost solemn, was a breath of fresh air for someone who, like me, is not used to attending classical music concerts.

All in all, it was a very enriching experience, which gave me a different perspective and surprised me in a positive way.
