The symphony of all things - Week 215

Since I was little, I've always been driven by music. I remember every day my uncle, who worked as a night-shift taxi driver, coming home, going to rest, and putting on some rock music while he slept. It was basically with him that I developed my musical taste. Today, I have quite an eclectic taste and listen to almost everything. But rock is still, without a doubt, one of my favorite music genres.

It's almost obvious that a person who is so passionate about music would want to learn to play an instrument. It's not a rule, but it happens frequently. For me, it was no different.

During my pre-adolescence, around the age of 11, I started taking piano lessons at a Catholic church near my house. I spent three years attending classes taught by the nuns. Despite being a religious environment, I loved learning from them and learned a lot. Since then, I've been playing the keyboard and piano, though I'm quite out of practice. The last time I ran my fingers over piano keys was in 2017, backstage during the filming of a Ramona Rox music video.

One interesting fact is that I'm terribly shy about playing the keyboard in public. I think I put too much pressure on myself, precisely because I know how to play, and I end up freezing up... I even wanted to buy a basic one to practice at home, but where I live is small, so there's no space.

Precisely because of this lack of space and because it's more 'practical,' I also try to dabble in the guitar. I got my first—and only—guitar from my taxi-driving uncle when I was 14. The story is quite funny because the guitar cost him R$ 6. It was pretty beat up, missing the tuning pegs, and the body was in bad shape. I'm not a luthier, but I managed to fix it up as best as I could, and it’s still with me, standing strong.

I don't know how to play much, my fingers hurt a lot when I try, and barre chords are a complete chaos. However, in moments when I need to take a break from the world, it's a great way to distract myself.

Ah, I also tried my hand at playing the guitar and took a month of drum lessons—which, by the way, is my favorite musical instrument!
