Rediscovering Magic.
It has been one hell of a week for me but reuniting with Ed Sheeran and his music must have been the highlight of my week. No fluffing.
Early this week, I went to visit a friend after an utterly tiring day and my countenance was just so down. Apparently, my friend had stepped out so I had to wait for her. I sat there, trying to keep myself busy when the first song by Ed Sheeran came up. Her neighbour had music buzzing from a boombox and for the first time in a long time, I appreciated loud music. Possibly because the songs being played were mindful and calm songs.
It was then I was reminded of my childhood sweetheart;Ed Sheeran. "Shape of you" by Ed Sheeran was one of the songs I could literally go crazy for when I was younger. The nostalgia that surrounds this song is just mind-blowing. Singing and dancing along to the classic.
This was one of the very first songs from Sheeran that captured my heart. Due to this, I learnt the lyrics word for word and surprisingly, I still haven't forgotten the lyrics. I remember how I bought a separate notebook just for lyrics and 'Shape of You' was the first song to adorn that notebook.

The reason as to why I totally loved and still love this piece of music is still a mystery. Is it the lyrics? the beats? the artist? Or the music video even?
In the lobby where I sat at my friend's place, I watched how swiftly my mood changed from bad to "pretty Okay" and then to "extremely lively". There is something about the songs Ed Sheeran sings.
I sang each song heartily, not paying heed to how my day had turned out. I'd have you know that the rest of the day was spent in a jolly mood. Certainly! Music has that effect on me.
The song "shape of you" features a catchy melody and lyrics anyone could easily sing along to. The song basically centres around the live, attraction and physicality of relationships. It takes us into a world where passion can be spurred up initially with no ulterior intentions.Little wonder why I sing it with such passion each time
It kinda reminds me of young love. The pure kind of love that didn't have requirements. However, on proper analysis the song tilts more towards infatuation because why would you instantly fall head over heels for a lady you just met and who almost broke your nose?
One line I would always commend Sheeran for is the second line in the chorus; "Your love was handmade for somebody like me". I'm quite observative and whenever 'handmade' is mentioned, it portrays authenticity. Originality.
Shape of you continues to be one song that I adore and would possibly never get tired of listening to or singing along to. Undeniably, it's a fine piece of music and as such, it deserves its crown.
What do you think? Ever heard this song? What do you think of this piece?
Love, Wongi 🌼
Hi Wongi, that song is catchy. I really like it too and it's about keeping it simple. Hahaha...and having fun. That's all. 😂
Music is great therapy. When I'm about to be overtaken by sadness, I just put on a song I like and sing along loudly. Immediately my mood changes.
That's amazing. I can always attest to how therapeutic music is and I hope it continues this way.
