Embracing The Chaos.

Have you ever listened to a song that sounds like it has passed the test of time? A song that sounds like something you have listened to right from the womb?

This was what I felt the first time I listened to “Too Sweet by Hozier” leading me to argue for hours unend with a friend who said this piece was released this year(2024). My point of argument was that “Too sweet” was definitely released in the 70’s or 80’s as it sounds awfully familiar.

As one would already guess, I was in the wrongs because the soulful blues was released on the 22nd of March,2024. Nonetheless, the song effortlessly stands out among the rest of the songs released in the same period.

Research has shown that a lot of people have come to enjoy calm, well-paced and thought-provoking songs. If I'm to state a reason for this off the top of my head, I would say this is because such songs are soothing and one could easily find solace in them. This would only highlight the comforting quality of ‘good music'.

Like I said, it feels like I've listened to this song all my life, but I particularly took an apt interest in the piece about two months ago. This is one song that was unremorsefully placed on repeat.

Aside from the minimalistic and straightforward arrangement that allows listeners to focus on the emotional intensity of the song, the song has an interesting lesson or two for the listeners.

The song basically centres around people who always always have their life in order. Having an orderly life can be amazing. Wake up by this time, eat, work, go to bed and repeat the next day. This could be termed as having a routine but we really have to admit that sticking to a routine can not only be monotonous but tiring sometimes.

Life doesn't always go as planned. On a few occasions, certain things could happen to derail our routine and instead of letting go, certain people work tirelessly to regain balance and maintain their routine. Amazing.

Nonetheless, it doesn't really hurt to deviate even a little bit from routine sometimes. The good thing about deviation and life in general is that there is always something new to learn; whether good or bad.

I can comfortably talk about deviating from certain routines from time to time because once upon a time, I had a routine and maintaining it was one of my top priorities. One may wonder, what happened? Along the line, I guess I realised that monotony just led to stagnation. The fulfilment that came with sticking to my routine eventually began to dwindle and wear off, leading to a yearning for more. Of course, I couldn't achieve more by remaining in the same place. In summary, I spread my wings a little bit further and I was willing to take the chances that accompanied wings spreading.

This lesson is similar to what Hozier portrayed in his song. The artist used the term ‘’too sweet' as being overly orderly and inflexible which isn't naturally right. Inasmuch as many may not want to agree, it's part of human nature to be a bit flexible once in a while.

Also, the song painted a vivid picture of love and loss. It is quite amusing how one person could adore an orderly person while another person could be irked by such robotic orderliness.

Overall, Too sweet is an amazing listen. If one doesn't like the message the artist is trying to communicate then they could like the flow and pace of the ballad. This song has remained at the top of my list for quite some time now and I'm certain it will remain that way a little longer.

Love🤍

Maybe the song sounds familiar to you because it sounds similar to a song you already know 😁 but I totally agree that certain songs sound like we have always known them despite them being new, we probably listened to them in a past life.

Hozier is a fantastic singer, his first song I listened to was "Take Me to church", released over 10 years ago but still very good today, another example of a song that has stood the test of time. I'm just coming across Too Sweet today and it's also a great song, I'm adding it to my playlist. Thanks for sharing
