STV - Sorry I was wrong, This Post Changed My Preconceived Mind

Okay, you all know that I had this Latin(a) kink ever since I visited Nicaragua all by myself several lives ago.

I love ES-EN posts as I do not practice my Spanish enough in real life, because I keep myself stuck behind this damn keyboard every day.

Now musically I had also very little experience with Latin music, except for Manu Chau.

When I came to Nicaragua that changed and one of the artists I fell in love with was Alexandra Guzman.

I bought two cassettes before I had to leave and I still have those somewhere, but Spotify made them obsolete.

In all honesty, I don´t hate big tech, I don´t trust them but well every day and age has a big brother. It just changed from being God and The Church to being Mark & Elon.

But when I saw this post:

I was like seriously?
Is Spotify now gonna do Artist Days for artists that are so big that they do not even need it?

Now of course due to writing my Midnight Gems Sessions every week and seeing how many upcoming awesome artists there are that do not get any views, plays, or attention, I am a bit biased.

Me not loving the over-commercialized world we live in did also not help my preconceived mindset. Well, that is basically what triggered this Spread The Vibes #STV post. The fact that my initial thought was, what a BS. Why would you feature Shakira?

Until I read @elizabeths14 s (There must have been at least 13 Elizabeths before she joined I guess😁) post the Spanish version of course.

Dutch & loving America Latina(s)

Full disclosure, Shakira had her first hit in Holanda in 2001 with Whenever, Wherever which was just a bit after I returned from the continent I fell in love with. And of course I preferred Suerte above the Gringo version. Even though I am not a Gringo being from Europe, you are always a Gringo until you tell them your from Amsterdam.

Damn, full disclosure I was dating a beautiful girl from Chile at the time but I had a little Shakira Crush after seeing that.

Back on Track

Okay back to the storyline, I saw Dia de Shakira and was like WHYWHY?

But as I was triggered I read the article and I loved how @elizabeths14 called out those songs I found so many years after she did (in 2008-2010 when I was using Spanish songs to improve my speech as I by now was living in a Spanish speaking country, unfortunately not a Latin country yet.)

And this song and vid sold Shakira to my Corazon, I was in love with both the song and the singer. Even more in love than I was with Sandra Kimin ´86.

So back on track again, Shakira didn´t need this push in my book even though she is awesome. But I had to change my mind after reading this part.

Shakira was the first Latin singer to position herself globally, with many awards, besides this for me, these last two years have been her rebirth as the phoenix, the climax that her career, after being almost off for a long time, needed. She is undoubtedly a woman who since her beginnings, and read that right, since her beginnings, has never been afraid to raise her voice. And lately she surprised us with her fabulous performance at the VMAS.

But common

This lady had it in ´95 she had it in ´01 and she still has it in 2023. I should shut up my biased mind a bit more, I might be right every now and then...but it´s better to listen than be judgemental.

And that is not just me, it's a disturbing factor of today's society. Everyone is addicted to having an opinion without even knowing the facts

I would say yes, Shakira opened the doors to Latin music for a lot of people. Celebrating that one day a year is not too much to ask. But @Spotify can we then also please have a day for this guy just to make sure he will not be forgotten:

Nothing says sings America Latina more to me than Victor Jara. And again I am biased as I played these albums on vinyl, the originals brought over from Chile. I played them while dating a girl from that same beautiful country.

Of course, I am asking for the impossible as Spotify does not give a flying tortilla about this guy. So it´s up to me to make sure we don´t forget him:
