My Musical Sunday School Sessions - Funny Looking Angels

Do you believe in Angels, do they walk among us? If you believe they do then so do demons, right?

Let me not scare you anymore for now, and focus on the weirdest angels I just came across.

It already starts with the name Ophanim, which refers to wheels. But the issue here is that it´s not fully clear if these wheels were actual beings or that they just accompanied the Cherubim, who therefore were referred to as the Ophanim.

The most famous encounter, because it´s in the bible is Ezekiel´s meet up in his vision of the heavenly chariot (Ezekiel 1:4-28)

Where he describes the Angelic creatures as having a humanoid form with multiple faces, wings, and hands.

They have four faces: that of a human, a lion, an ox, and an eagle, and four wings.

What drew my attention was that these beings are accompanied by wheels, often described as "wheels within wheels."

These wheels move alongside the creatures. These wheels are said to be a representation of divine motion and sovereignty over the universe.

Have you seen those sci-fi movies where they time travel and get into a ball-like machine with cogwheels moving in all directions around them when the travel started?

Now combine that with what the astrophysicists expect to be the ideal shape to move through space and time. It´s believed that it would be a ball or sphere-like structure.

These wheels are said to be a representation of divine motion and sovereignty over the universe.

If you say divine motion would that not be more than only moving in a direction, would that not mean four-dimensional travel? Moving through space, time, and dimensions?

Let me ask you one thing:

Why would divine beings like Angels need wheels within wheels? Why would they in any shape or form be associated with a representation of divine motion and sovereignty over the universe?

Enoch, yes the guy from The Book of Enoch was taken into the cosmos by an Angel called Uriel. But Enoch never mentions the need for any wheels within wheels to propel them.

This is how I would expect an Angel to teach mankind about the universe.

While Ezekiel mentions a craft-like item, with a pilot that resembles a son of man. The pilot is trying to converse about religion and politics, but Ezekiel is too astonished to reply.

The craft he is in and how it propels him above Babylon (now Iraq) is so mindboggling that Ezekiel can't speak for seven days after being dropped off in Tel Aviv.

This is a very different way of traveling and not the way I would expect Cherubim to use when taking a mortal man up into the skies.

If you are lifted up by an Angel it would be the divine power, while Ezekiel's description sounds more like a machine.

Ezekiels Experience

He asks what metal could be so shiny, and wonders how the wheels work and what roaring sound is when they move.

As for the appearance and structure of the wheels, they gleamed like beryl. All four had the same form; the appearance and structure of each was as of two wheels cutting through each other.

Above the heads of the creatures was a form: an expanse, with an awe-inspiring gleam as of crystal, was spread out above their heads.

Under the expanse, each had one pair of wings extended toward those of the others; and each had another pair covering its body. 1:24 When they moved, I could hear the sound of their wings like the sound of mighty waters, like the sound of Shaddai, a tumult like the din of an army. When they stood still, they would let their wings droop.

He describes it as The Glory, now you can call it a vision, and with that, it would be the end of the story.

Or should we leave a bit more room for modern interpretation? And I do not even have to go talk about extraterrestrials because the pilot that flew Ezekiel looks human.

Now we all know, or at least those who read or heard about David Icke

Hence there might be beings with the ability to look like humans, but that is a story for another writer.

The concept of time is relative, which makes time traveling very feasible. Now you might think we are so modern nowadays but we are not. Electricity as a tool is less than 250 years old.

We are still babies if you look at our development. Cars are still resembling the horse carriages and doctors still cut people open. Just like before the industrialized era.

We might think we are so advanced but if you look closely we are not, we still have a long way to go till we can build a sensible way to travel through space & time.

Just have a look at Elon´s rockets, using so much fuel and then still going bust. There are so many better ways to propel a spacecraft using a very different way of thinking about movement, distance, gravity, and propulsion.
The thing is, the human mind is not there....yet.

Just like Ezekiel´smind was not there, and maybe to avoid going insane he attributed his travels to divine beings as he could not imagine a mere mortal propelling this godly chariot.

Above the expanse over their heads was the semblance of a throne, in appearance like sapphire and on top, upon this semblance of a throne, there was the semblance of a human form.

In the time of Ezekiel, that figure could not be Jaen Luc Picard but had to be the divine glory (kābôd YHWH). While with slightly more modern glasses that sounds an awful lot like the true pilot of the ship.

But that pilot would be surrounded by screen-like devices radiating colors because in those days the Vision Pro would no longer need an ugly set of goggles.

And guess what Easy E saw:

From what appeared as his loins up, I saw a gleam as of amber — what looked like a fire encased in a frame; and from what appeared as his loins down, I saw what looked like fire. There was a radiance all about him.

For any man or woman in Ezekiels´ era, that radiant figure could be nobody else than the big man himself. But just think about that....

Bikini Bottom Line

Why would the almighty come to earth?
Why would he show himself as the pilot of this divine chariot?
Why would his so-called throne be in a vessel that has wheels within wheels?

That just makes no sense at all. If I was God I would leave my throne in heaven, I probably would not even leave heaven after what Adam & Eve did. I would definitely not take a spaceship to go visit a Babylonian prophet and take him for a ride.
