Midnight Gems - Your free weekly Mix-Tape with a story - E 03 "Going Above & Beyond"
Inspiration is not always a blessing, I guess. I was very much inspired by some gems in the set that @seckorama shared last Saturday.
That much inspired that I promised myself to kick off this week's session with a little bit of Kandy. Fever Ray is a welcome guest on this show, her songs are just sickeningly original.

That outro somehow made me think of this death song, I sometimes have those weird connections, can that be do to my deteriorating brain?
Death in Vegas - Hands Around My Throat
Okay so where to go from here, the start of this show was triggered by inspiration but what to play when inspiration runs out, well I can always fall back on some modern post-punk. Don´t listen to this song more than once, because this is no heartworm but an earworm.
Heartworms - 24 hours
Loving where this is going, but this vibe.... I want to hold that the whole night through and not have to fall back on easy picks. So don´t let this next intro fool you, it sounds like a typical Midnight Gem, but then....
Borns - Past Lives
It took me some time, but I think I have got a follow up that fits the bill and takes me out of my comfortzone while keeping this sets vibe alive.
Moderat - A New Error
It´s really not that I am not into electronic music, but it needs to fit my mood. This set was screaming for it, and this video was asking for it.
Lorn - Anvil
Great, I am in the mood and out of my zone, so how to cross over to get back?
Total different genre, but somehow I think this will work very well in this setlist.
Lana Lubany - Clones
Getting there, almost home, the vibe is still alive and I feel myself sliding in to something I feel a bit closer to.
These guys had millions of streams on Spotify, but I only found them this week. Unlike the title, the song does not sound that heavy, but damn what a freaking Gem is this.
The Backseat Lovers - Heavy
Yes I made it, and it didn´t hurt...at least not that much. Love to close this show like this, hope you dig me going above and beyond once again to give you a playlist that will brighten up your week.

Somewhere lost in time, trying to escape out of the rabbit hole back into the rat race there is a vacuum..... that´s the place where midnight gems are found.
My Midnight Gems will try to uncover & recover those beautiful songs that nobody ever noticed or might have been forgotten.
Who the fluff am I?
Being a former DJ playing about everything and having an uncompleted study of radio journalism. I have been wanting to do this for years...Thought about it many nights and guess now it´s time to finally take it to the streets.

These Heartworms are new to me and it seems to me that they will (if they haven't already) grow up quickly into an iconic band.
