Midnight Gems -Your Free Mix-Tape Show - E 65 "Cuba Libre"

This week I did something different.

Iggy was a Passenger and he would ride and ride
I was a DJ and I would play and play most of the requests coming in as long as I could give my own spin to it.

As of late, there have been some specials. I did a Eurovision session, a '90s Special, and we had some others in the past I even remember a German Special, can you believe that?

Okay yes, I am making up excuses for doing another Special and to make it easy I will blame @thisismylife for asking more Latin after last week´s session.

And I am just the DJ I aim to please.

But I will put my spin on it because musically I am an eclectic cluster F but I do have a certain taste. And when prepping this post I found a hell of a lot of Latin trash to be frank.

I maybe should have expected that, but I did not. Because the week before I found so many Latin gems without even looking for them.

But if you start looking for them, you got it, they all start hiding.

Anyway, after spending way too much time in a Latin YouTube bubble, I think I came up with a nicely diverse session. That would go well with a Cuba Libre on a hot summer night.

Kicking it off nice and slow, lazy and long with the sons of the sun. Lately, I have been longing for some Dire Straits, and some peace and quiet. This is a great mix of the best of both like a Rum and Coke.

I am no expert, I just know what I like and I like a lot, someone @seckorama once said that I like the melodic stuff, no matter what genre. And I think that was pretty spot on.

So for me, Latin is huge! And I will try to cover some of it. For me this is Latin.

But this crazy little diamond is Latin as well, and both give me goosebumps.

Nanan - Casa da floresta

Okay, I guess I got this party started now let´s make it a bit hotter in here, a bit Caliente.

Darn, I get this Money Heist / Casa De Papel feel straight away. Now these guys are Spanish, and I probably should, but I don´t care.

Carlos Jean, Mala Rodríguez & Miguel Campello feat. Victor Iniesta - De las Malas

Oops there is Manu Chao, the Columbian version with a bit more titties, but that sound is simply lovely. And I am sure you all are familiar with La Hierba.

Mero Voltaje - La Farmakos, La Muchacha

While deep-diving into this Latin(a) vibe I found many very violent videos, Now I know that in the Dutch scene this often is all for the show, but there it´s boys and there toys.

Here I came across Bitches with ballistics as if every girl in the bario is carrying. Trust me this vid is mild, but it was an eye-opener.

Aura Bae - Arza y Toma

I must say these girls with guns were kinda scary but also very Chula although I prefer my Chulas like this one.

CHULA La Excepción ft. Poochyeeh

Closing in on the final part of this show, and well of course I save the best for last. This is as eclectic as my taste, love this mix of many styles.

Aerstame - Flamas ft. Stailok

Going out with a bang once again.

Now these small-town boys have some weird vids and if those were serious they are kinda well that thing that happens in small rural areas. But come on Spanish Gabber these are indeed great moments.

Somewhere lost in time, trying to escape out of the rabbit hole back into the rat race there is a vacuum..... that´s the place where midnight gems are found.

My Midnight Gems will try to uncover & recover those beautiful songs that nobody ever noticed or might have been forgotten.

Who the fluff am I?

Being a former DJ playing about everything and having an uncompleted study of radio journalism. I have been wanting to do this for years...Thought about it many nights and guess now it´s time to finally take it to the streets.
