Alright, It´s time to get to know me better, I have been calling myself an alternative rock and dance DJ. Now an alternative Dance session will come soon.

But for now, I just wanted to do an old-fashioned DJ-Pluis Friday Night Session. A Set I would have played back in the day.

Because trust me that floor doesn´t fill itself, but let me give a few hints how to get it bouncing.
It might be hard to believe because some of you might think rock ain´t Dance-able.....well let me prove you wrong.

The trick is to get people on the floor, so your first song should be dancy and dandy. Well, Fall Out Boy is a perfect example to get things started.

That should light things up and get that floor filled with bouncy girls. Damn, these boys knew to light it up. And let me give you one tip, as soon as the skirts start dancing the boys will follow suit.

Then again one song doesn´t make a party, this is when you need to keep the girls dancing and move the boys closer. And a good bartender will get enough drinks in to get the shy boys to move.

Now you got to lead your audience down the road of equality, the previous song was a bit strong, so let's get some more girlie but not enough to embrace the boys.

Fast, but not too fast

Let´s slow down, but keep that cool bartender flow going. Because people need to drink, no booze no business.

Flipside is slowing it down a bit just for the guys to buy that dancing girl they have been eyeing a drink, of vice versa of course. Or for that rock chick to buy that goth babe a drink. OMG, it is so hard to be diverse and inclusive as a writer nowadays.

Back to the beats, we now need a song that everyone likes, and as we all have scars so we all like Papa Roach.

Now that you have the floor happy and moving you can make them do whatever you like. And as we are talking rock, we want them to rock their socks off. Also because that allows the DJ to speed up and climax. Disturbeds´ Sound of Silence is amazing but not tonight, tonight The Game will truly make you dance.

My personal favorites are songs like the game, songs that incorporate a few electronic beats into a very strong rock anthem.

That intro just keeps them moving and those guitar explosions will make any metal boy happy. So by now, you have a floor going crazy on a pretty heavy sound. That is when you do not take a step back but do a step forward.

Move My Little Zombies

Same beat, same guitars blasting, and just make them keep going like Zombies....Rob´s Zombies.

Now comes the tricky part you would like to keep going, but you should diversify and that means move away from those guitars into a bit more rhythm to allow the girls to get overly excited ..... but you do not want to lose the boys.... I say Remix!

That is the best remix ever, it would kill my dance floor, like the actual floor by having too many people on it. But how do you move from this back into danceable stuff that is just a bit more sexy? Why sexier? Because sex sells.

As long as you have girls dancing, boys will keep drinking and that pays my bill.

NIN has such a great style that would satisfy all sexes even the ones that do not want to be labeled because whatever you think you are, you all wanna be that Rock Star

Never play the same artist twice

FOB is one of my fav bands to switch from one sound to the next accessible, but still cool. This is the song that introduced me to these guys and would always keep the party going if you wanted to go from loud to something more old school

What is more old school than this supergroup, reaching even the G&R fans so you are sure you are making everybody happy. With a pretty good tune that allows you to slide into whatever.

And that whatever should of course not be a band you played already in your set, unless it makes a perfect fit and the floors digs it🙃

Whatever in this case should be an earworm, that everybody knows, nobody really likes but doesn´t allow you to stand still.

Going out with a Bang

Then you kick the classic and make everybody move because you are working your way back to your big bang finally. You always wanna go out with a bang, because that is what people remember and makes them come back for more next week, no matter how many drinks you had.

The big bang, no better bang than the one you get by bringing your own bombs

Hope you enjoyed my little how-to and you can find the setlist on Youtube Setlist and Spotify Setlist!

This is a pretty heavy mix. I feel like it would fit in a kind of industrial/goth club more than your average yuppie club. It definitely has a certain feel to it. Awesome selection of songs. I always thought it would be cool to DJ.

It definitely wasnt a yuppie club (the pic shows that much😎) indeed, alternative rock, alternative dance, and a bit of old, now and goth metal. But I also did weddings and eighties/nineties parties but this would be a set I played being the resident DJ on a Friday night, Saturday would be a bit more popular I guess but this would definitely be representative of a Friday

Thank you Thank you that is super feedback. I guess I should explain my views on building up a set more often. It´s something I do in general, but I never really explain the whywhy.

Really great to hear, have a good weekend!
