Beyond The Looking Glass is the second book in the Unseen series, a story that came to me from the other side. A story where I thought I was just the narrator until I heard the Words of the Unseen.

This second story goes beyond time and place and mixes the long ago with the here and now. Because history keeps repeating, until we learn and do something about it.

Beyond The Looking Glass - Words of the Unseen - Chapter 95

Dear Reader, what I am about to tell you is purely confidential. You can not talk to anyone about this, ever. I am innocent, no matter what they say, you hold the proof that I am innocent.

All clues are hidden in this book, if you read it right, you know how you can prove my innocence, but you can not talk about it with anyone. If this comes out, if they find it first... I am going to jail.

Nah, just kidding. But I just wanted to make you feel for a second how hard it is being forbidden to share.

We all carry secrets we can not tell, and if we are lucky, we have one special person that knows it all...if we are lucky.

How many of us are that lucky? Are you that lucky, Dear Reader?

"That whole word doesn't mean anything to me, I mean I would have remembered if she had told me that."

I think back to all our chats, and this just does not make sense.

"It is pure nonsense. I mean, she went to school alone and on her bike. She did an internship, wrote flawlessly, and knew exactly what she wanted."

I am confused and for a minute I doubt if she truly did those things, but her texts were so clear.

There never was a word that made me get suspicious, I mean she even had a freaking accident with that bike. And pain in her back from cleaning the kitchen, you just do not make those things up, do you?

"No, she's not whatever that word is."

Still with his hands folded in front of his face, "that's what I think too. Based on the testimonies of people from her school, she knew exactly what she wanted, and did not want."

He pauses, "if you haven't done anything wrong, it might be better if you go without me. You can stop the interrogation at any time if you want me there."

Damn, without a lawyer?
But I get it.
I have nothing to hide and I have to prove it.

A lady in her fifties with short grey hair introduces herself as Monique from the Vice Department South Netherlands. Her colleague will be listening in via the telephone speaker.

I am a bit uncomfortable being here alone, the introductory chatter passes over my head until she tells me, "You are suspected of penetrating an incapacitated person, and abducting abroad."

Say what? Hearing those words, referring to someone I deeply care about is a blow to the stomach.

"Can you tell your side of the story?"

Since I am convinced that I did nothing wrong, I tell everything, down to the details where necessary.

When I arrive at the moment that Yalenix and I were separated, I burst into tears.

"What is it, why does this affect you?"

I take a few deep breaths and swallow the tears.

"What do you think? I am suspected of something terrible with someone I am crazy about. Someone I could not even protect that morning, could not even say goodbye to. And now I hear from you that she was taken against her will to the Netherlands and is in a shelter somewhere."

I swallow, again, "I mean I am grateful that you at least let me know that she is fine and that she is not with her mother. But this does affect me, yes."

"Look, I understand a little bit what is going on here, but itยดs really hard to hear it. What you suspect me of is really intense."

The gray woman's face seems to soften a little.

"We don't have any more questions, but is there anything else you want to know?"

Duh, of course I want to know something. What the hell I'm still doing here, why I'm here when I'm innocent?

"Well, it's not something you can tell me, I think, I know the Dutch police series very well. You are not allowed to give any insights about the status of the investigation, do you?"

"No, we can't say anything about that."

I nod, "then no, then I have nothing to ask but thanks again for letting me know that she's safe."

"Then I'll end the interrogation now," she says goodbye to her colleague and hangs up and ends the recording.

"Would you like another coffee?"

This was the first decent coffee in days, so I'm not saying no to that. She asks for a coffee and a tea over the phone.

"We're not allowed to say anything, but I can tell you this. Do you think that if we seriously suspected you of such serious crimes, you and I would talk like this?"

What is she saying?
Can she say that?
I must look very innocent, but now I feel the corner of her mouth curl up.

"What I can tell you," she continued, although off the record of course, "is that we also questioned her, and that your stories match. And that she has been just as worried for you, as you for her."

Then the door opens and an officer comes in with coffee and tea. "Take this young man to the hallway, his lawyer will be here shortly."
