Dear Reader, even a flawless occupant of a European country yielding to every rule is not safe from the so called democratic system.

If your name is on the list, you are presumed guilty before proven innocent.

The system will take its time to review all suspicions around your character, even if you never had as much as a parking ticket.

There is no way to defend yourself, you have to go through the motions and have faith you come out freely on the other end.

It only takes a bit of bad luck, dice rolling the wrong way, or a touch of manipulation for you to not be presumed innocent.

Oh come on, seriously, what is this?

I guess I just have to wait and see because I don't really understand what's going on here.

Then, the man who dragged me out of my house tells me to move.
He guides me away from the door, and sits me down on the cold stone border of a flower bed.

It doesn't really feel like I have a choice.

"Passport?"

"Yes, but it´s inside," I say.
They look at each other, "Quickly then."

"Can I also get a coat, it's cold,"
These guys already kept me outside for five minutes while it's December 2nd, 9 a.m. and I'm sitting here in my freaking T-shirt.
Really, what are these monkeys thinking, what are they looking for?

"If you don't have to go upstairs," the man without a package says gruffly.

The only thing on my mind is that having to go with them means Yalennix is alone. I feel really bad, my stomach is twisted. These past few weeks have been tough enough for her, and this morning must have been scarry as fuck.

What is the point of this circus? I can't leave her like this, even though it's clear that saying goodbye isn't an option.

Well, last time it was fixed in an hour, I can explain the whole thing again and be back soon. It must all be a misunderstanding.

When I'm lying on a cold thin mattress in a dark underground cell, the only thing that goes through my head is "So this is what people mean when they say "it feels like my life became a bad movie."

All I need is just a little patience, it will soon become clear that there is a mistake here. But they really should hurry up because I don't want Yalennix to be alone for any longer than needed. She's only been here a few weeks and this morning must have been terrifying.

A guard enters, finally we get some movement.
Moving the wrong way, we are not going up but deeper underground. The fact that fingerprints and mugshots are being taken, does not feel like we are moving in the right direction, WTF?

Then I'm finally taken upstairs, on the way out, I pass an officer of the national police who was at my house a few days ago. He looks at me almost funny, almost kind, a look that says "There's nothing I can do about this."

A detention van takes me away, no idea where. No one told me anything, but I recognize the city center when I am escorted out by two new figures who take me to a room.

There is a TV, someone turns it on, there is an older woman with red-grey hair: "Do I understand Spanish?"
"Usually yes," I say, still dumbfounded.

"I am your lawyer. The Netherlands has filed an extradition request. You have two options. You can either accept their request, which means you will be taken to the Netherlands within 10 days, or you can refuse, in which case the Spanish police will investigate your case here."

Ehh I was already dumbfounded, I can't get much dumber, an international extradition request? What for in god's name? She didn't say that, or did I miss that part?

"Do you understand me?"

I nod, it's simple. You don't want to be in a Spanish cell as far as I understand, and since I haven't done anything wrong, the Netherlands seems the far better option.

"I'll go," I say calmly.

She passes my answer on to others who I can not see but are in the room with her. Then she faces the camera again.
"Clear, do you have any questions?"

"Yes, I can at least wait those ten days at home, I have a job, you know."

She looks at me a little strangely, her face tells me she did not expect this question.

She faces the faceless people, translates.
Are they serious, do I even need to ask that? If I need to go to the Netherlands, I need to get stuff. Organize things, there is a girl in my house with hardly any money and two dogs.
I should at least get a few days to sort this out, and request time off at work.

The lady returns to the camera, something about her appearance makes me think of a parrot.

"Your request has been denied."
