Beyond The Looking Glass is the second book in the Unseen series, a story that came to me from the other side. A story where I thought I was just the narrator until I heard the Words of the Unseen.

This second story goes beyond time and place and mixes the long ago with the here and now. Because history keeps repeating, until we learn and do something about it.

Dear Reader, Do you know why you do the things you do?

Are your actions in line with the plans you made?

Or do you see yourself sabotaging your higher self's plan every step of the way?

How can it be this hard to focus and do those things we need to do to go where we know we want to be going??

"Believe it or not old man," I try to sound as mean as possible. "The rest of us made it into the city. What a place that is, but getting into the palace was our impossible mission."

"We had to get within those walls, and we did. On the day we gave up, just before we reached the gates the Sikh stopped us. Well actually, he stopped Numico and we were collateral damage."

The rice wine was starting to affect me or so I thought as I felt my body get warmer. I filled our glasses once more and continued.

"To cut a very long story very short, the boy may one day rule your lands with the Sikh's daughter."

If eyes could roll out of their sockets, this would have. Instead, Kosa takes a sip and chokes.

Only when the smell of food fills the room and the kitchen door opens do I pause again.

I realize that I still have so much to tell, but maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to enjoy the food first and in peace.

Even though the meals in the palace were extraordinary, the cooking skills of Kosa's wife are something that the imperial chefs did not master.

Stunned, I look at what I thought was Kosa's wife, half as wide and dark-haired instead of gray, I realize that my expectations were playing with me.

"Martio, may I introduce you to Stella. Well, we call her Stella, because the sweet child doesn't speak a word."
I look at the girl and as if my mind is still playing tricks on me I see an elderly face, on a bony young girl's body. The face fades into something else. Something I was supposed to see, a young girl's face. If she was not this scrawny she would be beautiful I think to myself, when I see the big dark eyes in deep sockets.

"She came here many moons ago. No one knows her and she didn't give any explanation herself. At first, we took her in to gain strength, trust me she looked worse for wear. She still has no meat on her bones but compared to how we found her," Kosa rolls his eyes up to heaven. We expected her to leave at some point, but she did not. The child is as loyal as a dog. Always near the house, and willing to help when needed."

When Stella puts down Kosa´s plate I catch her looking in my direction, if only for a few seconds.
"You must have missed each other at the stables, she sleeps where you used to camp."

The shadow for sure, I try to catch her eye but only see her slender back going back through the kitchen door.

"With my wife, things are much better, but a little extra help never hurts. So we let her stay, we have always secretly wanted a daughter," he laughs.

The food is just as delicious as before, and Kosa refills the glasses as soon as the dishes have been cleared. The man can not get enough of the tales from the city, and especially life within the palace.

Until late at night I explain to Kosa what is going on in the kingdom he is part of.

I did not expect him to know everything, but it seems that the news has traveled even slower than I have. Maybe that's a good thing, it means that the imperial city is still very far away for people like Kosa. That these developments which had seriously upset the balance in the royal region, did not spread throughout the empire. Being so close to all the happenings had made me blind.

I needed to pause myself to remember that I not so long ago had never heard from the city, or that it held the boss of the world.
To see that my recent travels taught me that our world was made up of twelve regions and that each region had an advisor to the Sikh and its own army. This all became so normal, so quickly. I guess once something is seen, one can no longer unsee it.

I want to keep talking, tell him everything. Just mentioning the names of Cabilah, Kreytu, Sion, and Numico makes me miss them less. But the full stomach and the rice wine make me aware of how tired I am and the old fox sees it right away.

"You can stay as long as you want and you don't have to go to the stable, I can't expose that little thing to your snoring. There is a room available upstairs, we'll talk more tomorrow and then you can tell me about your future plans as well. Because why would one leave that palace?"
