Beyond The Looking Glass - Words of the Unseen - Chapter 40

Beyond The Looking Glass is the second book in the Unseen series, a story that came to me from the other side. A story where I thought I was just the narrator until I heard the Words of the Unseen.
This second story goes beyond time and place and mixes the long ago with the here and now. Because history keeps repeating, until we learn and do something about it.
Beyond The Looking Glass - Words of the Unseen - Chapter 40
"You're going to miss them, aren't you?"
Sei stands behind me and her hand slides down my neck to my nipple. I know what she is planning and I am just in time to prevent a nipple twist.
"Stop your childish behavior," I laugh.
"You gather all those young people around you, then you should be able to handle childishness."
I turn around and look in her eyes, "Are you sure you don't want children or one at least?"
"Yes Martio, I'm sure I know it's customary in your village, And I'll gladly adopt your role as a teacher and take care of all the children with love, just like you. But just like you, there's something in me that holds back the desire to have children of my own. And I already have you, the greatest child of this empire."
I can hardly believe that I've been so lucky with her, she's not like the women here, but even less like the women of the city. She's a child and a schoolmistress in one, she's my sister and my mother. She's wise and disarming, she's annoying, childish, and has the cutest appearance.
"They've really tried their best to find someone I'll never let go," And then there it is the delayed nipple twist.
"Ouch, well that's nice, I'll be romantic more often, but yes I'm going to miss them. And I doubt I'll see Numico again in this life. It lasted seven summers, I don't know if I have seven more summers."
"Pretender, you may be the oldest man in the village now but we both know why that is, and how old your predecessor became. You'll be here for at least seven years and just as annoying as you are now."
I knew she was probably right, but still, the doubt of seeing Numico again kept gnawing at me.
Sei is still standing behind me and slides her arms further around my neck.
Sei and Numico are cooking together while the boy and I play a game of Rakum, with one eye I keep an eye on the young one but my other is fixated on those two.
I see how their energy grows when they are near each other. Her whole being seems even more lush. I know how sad she was when he left last time and I would grant her that, I would grant her what I see... the chemistry between those two is supernatural.
Life sometimes plays such a strange game, these two are made for each other, and yet their paths made sure they just missed that road together. Just like his wife's mother, my great love, and I missed out on each other in this life.
Why is the world this messed up when you see it through, so not quite logical. As far as I'm concerned, she could share the bed with him tonight but I don't think either of them will ever give in to what I see before me.
Why is that which is so obvious not meant to be played out as such?
It is also not up to me to explain the cruel twists of fate. I already have a nice task in the future that I shouldn't know about.
I look at Sei one more time, she shines so much more when Numico is there. Over the years there have been so many of her discoveries, but not like this.
"Your turn, for the third time Uncle Martio!"
I was distracted and I think the little emperor has adjusted a few things here and there because I am suddenly in a much worse position. After a few moves, I give in and make him clean the table, because that is a winner's task.
Numnico sits down opposite me and puts down two cups of rice wine. No expensive glassware this time, just the old-fashioned way, the young man and I.
"You feel it too, don't you?"
"Yes boy, I don't know why but today our journey ends, and it continues into the unseen."
Numico nods, "It's strange to know that I'll see you again on the other side and that I have to say goodbye here. Sometimes I wish we knew less. Not sometimes, actually almost always."
Now it's my turn to nod, then we empty the glasses and refill them.
