Beyond The Looking Glass is the second book in the Unseen series, a story that came to me from the other side. A story where I thought I was just the narrator until I heard the Words of the Unseen.

This second story goes beyond time and place and mixes the long ago with the here and now. Because history keeps repeating, until we learn and do something about it.

Beyond The Looking Glass - Words of the Unseen - Chapter 15

Dear Reader, are you still living near where you were conceived?

Did you stay close to that maternal comfort zone all your life?

Or did you break the chains to face the big bad world?

I can not tell you what is the smartest road to wander, itยดs all up to you.

Are you ready to taste more than your mother's breast, or does thinking about the unknown already make you nervous?

Before I fall asleep I try to make sense of the words and the voice. I listen very carefully to what I stored in my memory and it could be my imagination, but I hear a teasing, almost challenging undertone.

There is no way to prove it and maybe the voice will be right. Maybe I am slowly losing those few marbles that pretend to be the contents of my brain. Still, I know what I heard, and the voices I know never sound this, I am used to riddles, but insults are not their style.

When I wake up, Sei stands over me, already fully packed, "You want to get out of here quickly, so get up."

My eyes do their best to resist the bright light as I look up at the young lady. A naughty smile plays on her lips before I can utter a single word she turns around and starts the climb up the hill.

I quickly gather my things, untie my horse, and follow her while I look for water in the saddle bag. She's walking way ahead of me, that must be what is causing it. That must be what makes me think I'm looking at a young woman instead of a child.

Her movements are graceful even when she almost loses her balance as a stone comes loose from under her foot.

She continues walking ahead of me all morning and I don't have to correct her for a moment. It's like she's been here before, like she knows step after step where I'm going.

Only when the sun is at its highest point does she stop. I see her standing at the bottom of the hill, arms on her hips and again it seems as if the child in her has completely disappeared.

From my position, I see to the left the place where Numico and I found the wounded giant, the Master of the Forest. I turn my head away without thinking about it.

Ignorance and peer pressure are more deadly than any weapon, I think as I descend the hill.

"You're finally there," she says teasingly. It's not the amount of words, but it seems like she's actually talking to me for the first time instead of informing me.

"You must be thirsty," I say trying to bitch back and she nods hopefully.

"Then you should have walked next to me," I retort as I prepare to continue walking. With a few quick steps, she is indeed walking next to me.

"Why do you want to leave here so badly, it's because of your friend?"
I sigh deeply, "Yes, that, and here in this forest I had my first acquaintance with people from another village. The soldiers of the empire act on orders, they acted out of pure ignorance and I don't know what's worse if I'm very honest. "

Something in her posture changes, the young woman disappears and the narrow shoulders suddenly belong to a child again. I give her the water bag and we walk on in silence.

We are only a few days away from home, I remember what an adventure it was when I left the village to wander so far from what had been my comfort zone for so long.

How I met Numico or met up with Numico who had followed me for many days without me even noticing. Now I am coming home, not bringing the boy.

I am coming home bringing a strange girl to our hidden paradise, a girl that keeps my mind occupied. A girl that keeps shape-shifting between a woman and a child.

A girl I have grown fond of in the few days sheยดs been tagging along even though she does not make being liked an easy thing. She is like a magnet, she attracts and then she repels.

She is a wandering contradiction, but I think I have seen through her defense several times now. I learned that not talking is the best way to let her tell her story. And I learned that this young lady certainly has a story, and it ain't a pretty one I guess.

I let it go, her story will flow as soon as sheยดs ready. Then I realize I only have one bed in my cabin, building a second is not a problem but I probably have to sleep on the floor the first couple of nights for a second my lazy mind considers, and then I remember the horse incident.

I shake my head, look up, and for the first time in what feels like multiple lifetimes see the white top of the volcano.
