This second story goes beyond time and place and mixes the long ago with the here and now. Because history keeps repeating, until we learn and do something about it.

Dear Reader, is this a time to celebrate or is it just a number?

That is up to you, and me. Do we think having these three digits really changes anything in the story?

Is it a coincidence that exactly at such a beautiful round number, everything changes and a new life starts?

I have said before that I do not think that coincidence is a thing, but on the other hand, how much power does a simple number hold?

In the end, it´s just zeros and ones, and this is a digital novel, so everything you read can be reduced to a long line of 0´s and 1's.

When the name of my lawyer appears on the screen, I am startled; "Martin Speaking,...."

"Good evening, well afternoon I just got a message from the court."

Well, tell me when do I have to go to the Netherlands, flashes through my mind.

"Exactly, ehhh and..."

"The case will be dismissed tomorrow due to lack of evidence."

"Oh," is the first and only thing that comes out.

"That means that everything is over, that the restrictions are lifted. The mother can still appeal against this, but the investigation does not give reason to do so."

"So I can contact her again, it's her birthday next week, that would be really awesome?"

"Yes, contact is allowed again; there is nothing stopping you from doing that. I will contact you about the handling and compensation."

Four months later, on a cold January morning, we fly together to Spain, this time without tension....at least nothing more than normal travel tension.

This time, everyone knows about it. Not that everyone is happy about it, but everyone knows that there is nothing stopping us.

After a year of dark uncertainty, preceded by many years of imbalance and relational mismanagement, I finally feel at peace. I finally find peace with her, and also within me.

I feel more stable, more grounded than I ever did before. It´s a completely new start because we have absolutely nothing. The divorce is over, the sword of Damocles has been removed, and my bank account is negative once again.

In order to be able to do fun things together, we have to save, and fortunately, Zeeland blood flows through her veins. She is great at budgeting and used to living without much luxury.

I am not.
I am not used to justifying every expense, but it is time.
I deserve it, we deserve it, to finally be free and enjoy ourselves.

And because the Spanish summers are bloody hot, the first real gift we buy ourselves after saving up 6 months is an inflatable Jacuzzi for the small courtyard, our own swimming pool.

Three Years Later

When I close the last box, I can hardly believe that it has been more than three years since Yallenix came up the stairs and said, "I think I did something stupid, again."

We were looking for a new rental house, away from the place where the nightmare had started. She had been looking around and accidentally clicked on something.

"I think I asked them to contact you?"

I can't help but laugh out loud.

"Let me see."

It is a nice apartment, with wooden floors, a nice balcony, unfurnished so not "Old Junk," as Yallenix calls most of the furnishings in Andalusia.

"Looks good, let them call, right?" I say with a smile.

Now, three years later, I have to get out of here. Away from a place that found us by chance.

The whole process of getting this place was riddled with chance, because when I came to visit I hadn't viewed our apartment.

I hadn't seen the beautiful large balcony from the photos, which made me doubt if this place at this price was really meant for us.

I stepped through the gate hesitantly, walking beside the real estate agent. He gradually slowed his pace and then paused, seemingly waiting for the other two visitors on the apartment tour to leave.

"If you're interested I also have an upstairs apartment, an atico."

I looked at the place he pointed.
"Can we still look there?"

He looks at the gate and then at his watch, "Yes fine, I still have 10 minutes."

When I see the balcony, I recognize it immediately. I know enough. Almost enough, I have to be sure that the penthouse apartment isn't more expensive than any of the other apartments I have seen, strangely enough it´s not.

We had 24 hours to decide, that was how long he would hold it for us.
I was home a little after six, and by seven the message was sent "We're doing it."

Now that the three-year contract was up and the company that owned the buildings was going to sell everything they had in this gated community.

At that time we got in here with the idea, we'll see in three years. But I never expected three years to go so fast.
