Beyond Doubt (2).jpg

Welcome to my seemingly endless journey.
A trip that will take you to places I might have visited many moons ago.
It´s a tale that came back to me when I meditated on one of my past lives. A life I told you about in my unbelievable true story.

As promised in that story I will now share this story with you.

Chapter 96

Dear Reader, Doors and windows close and open every day along the path you walk.

It is difficult to recognize the right ones and even more difficult to see which ones are open to you, or which could better have remained closed.

We are only here for a short time and that time must be used well. Don't regret doors being slammed shut in your face.

Because only by knocking and entering will you ultimately know what you really came for.

Cabilah is the first to recover from the surprise.

“You bastard, you already told him.”
Dadrie shakes his head.
“Then how in Aka's name does he know who we are?”

Kreytu laughs, “Beauty, I'm not stupid. Dadrie would never let a prisoner, no matter how pretty, trick him into leaving the army. His heart has been, perhaps I should say was, frozen for a long time and the army only made him colder."

"It was beyond obvious that there was more going on here than a racing heart. But when a good friend asks you for help, you don't ask any questions," he pauses smiles, and then continues, "at first."

"When I went to the village this week I made some inquiries in the bar. Not that they knew much, but there is a rumor going around about a high-ranking officer who had deserted and that he had freed dangerous prisoners."

"Although the version I heard is probably romanticized. The officer is said to be madly in love with one of the prisoners. A woman who bewitched him and made all the men fall asleep with a spell, allowing them to escape in the middle of the night."

"It sounded a bit like Dadrie's story but I had doubts, Dadrie leaving like that, taking all those risks, because of a woman? I know him too well for that, or so I thought."

"The penny dropped last night when I had to go to the toilet and saw a torch burning. It was a coincidence that I saw it because it was there only for a second, but it reinforced my suspicion of what was going on. I can also count."

"Reinforcements should have been here today if I had informed them earlier this week. So when nothing happened today, you knew I didn't give Reiko up. Well, that owl, that was the deciding factor. I could not resist.
If I hurt anyone badly with the window, I'm sorry. As you might have noticed nothing happens here, so it was quite a joke to scare you."

"And no, Dadrie didn't know anything, but he has also known me long enough to know that if I had meant something bad I would have acted differently. That's why he saw the joke in the situation before you did."

"Now that you know what and how, come in, the door or the window, it's up to you.”

One by one we climb through the window, a strange way to enter a house, but after what we just experienced why should we think about formalities? Especially as the window is already open and the door is not.
In addition, a host who lets people in through the window is unconventional, something we could use in the future.

For the time being, we have a safe haven, as Kreytu turns out to be anything but a sympathizer of the Sikh. And above all, it's a relief to sleep in a warm bed again, even though my body has to get used to the softness. I enjoy every second I am awake. It gives me the opportunity to reexamine everything that happened tonight.

We shared the letter with Kreytu and after reading he withdrew himself for a moment. He was probably reminded that what he owns is built from the same barbaric way of acting.
On his return, he welcomed us again and offered us all the support in his power.

Near the warm fire, we discussed political ideas and I saw Kreytu's eyes sparkle when I talked about how life was organized in my little village.

Ultimately, we agreed that things cannot be reversed. That we should persuade the Sikh to choose a more peaceful middle path. A path that does not start in violence but in friendship.

A path that allows people to join together, a path in which everyone carries a burden, but no one is burdened. It would be a turning point for many. Most would benefit, but the rich will not be able to continue accumulating their blood capital at the same rate.

Of course, they do not have to become street dogs, but a considerable part of their surreal capital will be allocated directly to the government. It will serve as a basis for the newly acquired land to share in the prosperity of the empire.

We are all in favor of an empire because this would help to resolve mutual wars and disputes from above. It would promote harvest, trade, and knowledge for many.

It is clear to us that we are creating a utopia and that even if we are successful, wealth and poverty will remain clearly distinguishable on the streets. But we believed that we could shift that dividing line.

That we could save many lives and allow cultures and values to coexist with others. The army would play a mediating role. Ultimately, it could become a unified empire, with like-minded states in and around it.

It would not be a Utopia; there would always be objectionable points. There will always be injustice, but we all believed it would provide a more peaceful and just life for so many.
