Epilogue II

"When I left, I dared to say openly that I loved them, and they all agreed that the love was mutual."

"The long journey gave me enough time to think everything over again. All adventures passed through my thoughts several times. Little things about their personalities that I hadn't understood before fell into place. They had all grown and become more fully-fledged people. We had to say goodbye to some along the way."

"Before I left, Numico had looked at me again with eyes that did not belong to him."

"Now you are ready my son, now you can begin your real task. You are now able to fill my sandals and transcend me. Go and fulfill your role, fulfill it with love."

"Love, it had scared me so much and now that I look back I understand my fear of the pain, but I don't understand how I had been dead for so long before I started living."

"When I finally came home to my tribe after many wanderings, time seemed to have stood still. To that extent, only new souls had come and some old souls had passed on. But life here at the foot of the volcano was unchanged, well unchanged except for one thing."

"Not a day went by without me being reminded of those first people I dared to love again, the way I previously loved my sister and my mother."

"And as you all know," I paused for a moment, while I feel the cold soaking through my old bones, I look into the eyes of everyone sitting around the fire, many of my lessons and advice are filled with their anecdotes and wisdom.

For many years I have been telling about our endless journey somewhere to make the long winter nights more bearable, many faces come back year after year to hear the story.

Now that I'm getting older, they even know how to fill in the gaps in my memory. And every year at this point in the story, I hear their voices Numico, Cabilah, Daidrie, Retsj, and often those of Kreytu, Sion, and always Kyra.

“Tomorrow I will continue to tell you about 'The Long Road Back to Once' and if a boy or a girl comes to you and asks who the ruler of the world is, you can give him or her a beautiful answer, knowing that it is completely true."
