Beyond Doubt (2).jpg

Welcome to my seemingly endless journey.
A trip that will take you to places I might have visited many moons ago.
It´s a tale that came back to me when I meditated on one of my past lives. A life I told you about in my unbelievable true story.

As promised in that story I will now share this story with you.

Chapter 123

Dear Reader, The deepest wounds consist of injuries that are not visible, they do not heal when muscles and skin recover.

They are the deeply scarred craters at the core of our being. Often made by ourselves and therefore inaccessible as an itch in the middle of the back.

All that remains is to rub this spot against whatever removes the epidermis and releases the contaminating pus into the flow of blood to finally remove the infestation from your body.

After Numico leaves, I decide to retreat and meditate.

It must be quite late in the afternoon when a knock on the door jars me from my meditative state. I am trying to retake control but it takes me a while to regain my full awareness of what's going on.

“It's me,” a woman's voice whispers, and my heart skips a beat. I hurry to the door and let in the woman who has become so dear to me.

"If they find me here, it's over, but I didn't know any other way to get in touch with you. I don't think there will be another dinner together. He's completely out of it since I told him everything. I gave him an ultimatum. He has a choice, or actually, he has no choice."

"I will leave if he doesn't immediately dissolve the council and imprison them until they can be tried for their crimes. At the same time, some serious changes will have to be made. Otherwise, I'll openly reject him."

"If I know Zion even a little, she'll do the same. This would affect his divine authority to such an extent that he would have no choice but to grant my requests. He has to, he's stuck."

Her eyes are shining, her expression determined and full of strength. "Finally, I dared. Finally, I can be who I always wanted to be."

She throws her arms around my neck. I gasp, but even in her excitement, she remains polite and gives me a little kiss on the cheek, then continues.

"I'm just afraid that he'll realize the source of my newfound inspiration. If he does that means there's a good chance you'll have to leave before tomorrow evening. He will convene with the council soon, hopefully for the last time. After that, the empire will see more changes than the changes it has undergone over the past ten generations combined."

"Thank you, thank you for everything you've given me. I've never been so free, so strong, so happy to be who I am. I have to go. If they see me here, then we'll have the ningyô dancing. Because if they can even accuse me of unworthy behavior," she pauses for a moment, "they'll do everything they can to make it as dirty and filthy as possible."

A loud knock wakes me from my thoughts that were with Kyra, who left at least 300 counts ago. I open the door hoping she return with one last word, instead, a soldier is staring me in the face.

"Sir, excuse his highness but you are confined to your room. You will receive dinner in your room and you have to leave before dark the next day."

I feel lucky to recognize my guard; it's the young man who spoke at the secret meeting.

He quickly informs me that the council is now in conclave and that the Sikh has spoken of its dissolution. His eyes also shine at these words. After the meeting, he'll speak to one of his friends, who ensures order in the council chamber. Then he'll be back with dinner and to inform me once more.

Hours pass, and I've already fallen asleep and woken up several times. Doing nothing is unbearable. Then my door opens, and the soldier walks in with a jug of wine. His eyes are red-rimmed, his skin ashen.

"Sit down," I order him. "Are you ill?" He shakes his head.

"What is it? Why so down? What the hell happened, man?" I pour the boy a glass of wine, which he drinks in small sips.

“It's over,” he stammers. “It's over, they won.”

“What do you mean, man? What's over? If I understood Her Highness correctly, the Sikh had no choice. He had to follow her; otherwise, he'd lose his power in front of the whole empire.”

The boy sighs deeply, wrinkles his nose, and looks at me, the remnants of tears like wet stains on his cheeks. “It really looked like that, but they sidelined her. They managed to convince him that his divinity is untouchable. That anyone who doubts that and anyone who doubts him is not entitled to live in this realm."

"As his own laws prescribe, anyone who expresses doubts about the Sikh should first be killed by execution. It's his law; he can't get away from it. They convinced him that her ultimatum was a vote of no confidence in him and his divinity. That if he doesn't act now, he will lose his authority, and the empire will fall to pieces."

"The fact that these are his own divine laws, which no one can tamper with, is the deciding factor. Not recognizing his own law would mean he is flawed. Our lady has been detained and as we speak, she's being taken out of town. They will take her far from the city where she will be burned alive. Up that the wind can carry her ashes away to be blown out of the kingdom as unworthy.”
