Beyond Doubt: Whispers of the Unseen - Chapter 101
Welcome to my seemingly endless journey.
A trip that will take you to places I might have visited many moons ago.
It´s a tale that came back to me when I meditated on one of my past lives. A life I told you about in my unbelievable true story.
As promised in that story I will now share this story with you.
Chapter 101
"Martio I still see that blood, it's not my choice. I would have preferred it differently, but for some reason, I know the blood is necessary. None of us will order it, yet we support it. Don't tell anyone about the blood, they will be ready when the time comes. If they knew now, they might be hesitant about the future. Something we can't use."
"Everyone must be in their strength shortly. We will have to be sure of our goal. Because the door that takes us where we need to be has been opened. I have seen him. I have challenged the Sikh, he knows it. He knows he has been challenged, but he doesn't understand how, or by whom, or what, or to what end."
The galloping of horses silenced Numico. I poured us some wine and prepared two glasses for the men who would be coming in soon.
Dadrie is the first to enter the room through the large door, his face is sullen. He picks up the glass and puts it to his lips, then puts it down empty and fills it again.
“Is something wrong?” I ask halfway through his second glass.
He raises his head which had been bowed since entering. “You can say that again. Those retarded idiots, it can't be true."
"What happened?" I ask, shocked.
“They have apparently introduced new rules, one of which will interest you. You need to have one and a half times as much money as before to obtain an entry document for the city. This means that we will have to play farmer for six more months or longer. This means that those bastards can continue to do their thing for another six months.” Dadrie chokes on the next sip of wine.
“Where is Kreytu?”
“Stuck with his sweetheart, he didn't seem to care about this news. I think he is even happy, they can spend another six months fiddling with each other, while we can bite our nails.”
Then I turn my head to Numico.
“Change, I told you,” he says softly.
I look at him incomprehensibly. This was not what I expected after what Numico had just told me. If so, Numico must have misinterpreted something. Not that it was strange, it happened to me regularly, but the young man had spoken with such certainty. This news was the last thing I expected.
Dadrie plopped into a chair in the corner, the jug of wine in his hand. I also filled my glass again. I felt strangely calm and didn't jump out of my skin. I feel that this is necessary. But it doesn't sit well with me. My thoughts go back home to my village and the villages in the region. Six months longer could bring the troops very close.
An oppressive silence fills the room, the only sound coming from the crackling fire. Until a loud giggle disturbs the peace. It gets louder and louder and then the door swings open, and Cabilah is carried in, They both have smiles from ear to ear and giggle like teenagers in love.
“What's so damn funny?” Dadrie grumbles from the corner of the room.
“Well, old friend, first of all, your face. And probably the look on your face that follows and ultimately the look that will follow that. But to start at the beginning. Dadrie, my friend, I have to ask you something. Feel free to think about it, but not for too long, please."
"I just asked your sister to marry me, and she said yes, provided you agree. For some reason, she attaches great importance to your opinion, which I don't understand, but so be it. In recent months, I have met a woman who I never want to let go, and in recent weeks, this has proven to be mutual."
"So here I ask you two things: one, will you give us your blessing, and second, will you be my witness.”
Dadrie turns around in alarm, his sullen look is replaced by a smile, which turns into a burst of laughter.
“You want my blessing to throw yourself into misfortune; well, I wish it for you wholeheartedly. May you have children who look like Cabilah and not like that rat-head of yours.”
“Thank you, brother. It may be strange, but would you give me away?”
“Sure, sister, anything for your happiness. But what I don't understand is the next look he was talking about,” Dadrie says, pointing to Kreytu.
“I haven't gotten that far yet, but it comes down to the following. Since I have a pass to the city and I want to get married within its walls, this gives me the right to invite seven people besides me and my bride for a stay of three days within the walls of the city.”
“Why didn't you tell me earlier? I've had a black cloud over my head for two days, and you're playing nice, but don't tell me about what's going on in your sawdust, my dear friend.”
“Dadrie, Dadrie, of course, I had to ask your sister first. Since I hadn't done that yet, it was, of course, difficult for me to inform you about my plans. But the look on your face is just as I imagined it. Look, I know three days don't give us much time, but we have a chance. If that is the case, even one day should be sufficient, let alone three.”
Numico and I congratulate the two, and when I sit down next to Numico again, I look at him from the side.
“Change, buddy,” I say. Numico smiles and nods.
