Post 1995

We are still in my first era of freedom, I left home at 18 to go and study journalism.
Not that I was very much engaged with the world around me, there was just no other school that would help me to learn how to write better stories.

It actually was not a bad choice, I even got some extra curriculum stuff out of it training the Dutch military after they had proven that they could use some media training.

For those who were not there, they messed up pretty badly in Srebrenica 29 years ago today, and then they were a bit too open about when the media arrived.

Now of course that is the anti-purpose of a journalist, but on the other hand, these guys had never been in front of a camera. So when they went on a two-week training they were confronted with cameras and tough questions.

Please No News

I saw pretty quickly that the providing objective news narrative they tried to inject us with made no sense at all. The only thing was that those soon-to-be-called boomers who taught us had no clue how limited their so-called objectivity was.

I told them about the future and how everything would be opinionated and how people who truly want to be objective should study all those opinions and come to a holistic sequence of events and emotions.

Of course, the was also some fun news...well maybe not fun but definitely sensational making headlines all over the world.

And who better to explain this Simpson character than the Simpsons themselves, these friendly yellow F Ups really made the Nineties great again.

Those Simpsons, neve a dull moment I remember how I could sing a long with the second-best vanilla rapper from 1990. Remember doing THe Bartman, I did not but it is all coming back to me now.

But there is no place for second-best, because most of you forgot the Bartman, but I am sure you did not forget this vanilla rapper.

But Bart Does It Better

Yes those Nineties were raw...raw like sushi or raw like cookie dough.

Remember "Raw like Sushi?
You donΒ΄t have to because it was 1989 album but in less than 7 years she came with this mega classic.

The fun thing is that those mid-90s actually felt pretty vanilla to me. I did less drugs, or at least less different drugs. I only had two girlfriends and I went out like once a week.

All of that was quickly going to change when I met the first love of my life.

Can you have more than one love of your life?

Well a short story long. I saw her the first time I entered that coffee shop where I would work the bar a few months later. She was the cutest chubby Latina ever, and that smile.

She was the reason I kept coming back, because I kept coming back I got the job, because I got the job I saw her more often....and still it took over a year to have my first date with her. Which was a secret date because she sort of still had a boyfriend.

That made it a bit of a clandestine undertaking, and somehow that is how that relationship has always been even in the year we kinda lived together there was always this little act of secrecy.

Even the trip to Nicaragua I made to visit her had this air of forbiddenness combine that with the guy driving us playing Manu Chao all the time and well letΒ΄s put it like this:

I still love America Latina

Thank goodness you made it till the end Pees, Love and I am out of here!

WTF do I do on #NinetiesFriday?

Well, don't do what I do because I just stole the below as it is good enough for copy/pasta!

But some ideas are music, movies, television, sports, or really anything Nineties related.

I assume movie, tv, or music topic reviews or talk will be most common, but you could also talk about a sports memory or something else.

Think the Pop Culture of the times, but it would be great to hear about little known and interesting bands or entertainment items. Don’t forget to use tag #NinetiesFriday

@geneeverett will give 3 basic income units to a winning random post every week that uses the #NinetiesFriday tag. Also @thebighigg has jumped in to match for 6 total weekly prizes! If anyone else wants to sponsor with 1 unit let me know or just send if you don’t wanna commit to weekly πŸ‘

All images by MyI and AI except for the stolen #NinetiesFriday image of course.

Well done! That's some great stuff, I love the Simpsons, especially the stuff back in the 90's!

You made it to Nicaragua, very cool. That's one country I never set foot in mainly because when I had the chance it was too unstable at the time. Guatemala is cool though, and such a beautiful part of the world, everything is so green! I lived most of the 90's in Spanish speaking countries...

Great post!

The DR is a safe place to visit, they have some awesome beaches and reefs the to dive on. It's the oddest thing, the DR is fine but the other half of the island is one of the most dangerous places on earth. I feel bad for the Haitian people...

Costa Rica, Belize, and Panama are safer places to visit. Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua can be more dangerous to us "gringos" if you aren't careful in the big cities.
