I Had The Time of My Life at The Eras Tour Singapore

Hi there, wholesome reader!

I am so so so excited to share this once-in-a-lifetime experience I had at the Eras Tour Singapore! Are you ready for it? 1, 2, 3, let's go!

I am known to be the biggest Swiftie among my group of friends and I just can't contain the emotions I am feeling right now. Even weeks after the actual concert has happened, I am still on Eras Tour high as of the moment * internal screaming * I have waited for this moment my whole life and I just can’t believe that this really happened. But before anything else, let’s look back on how I became a huge Taylor Swift fan.

My Swiftie Journey

Wayback 2008, in the era of mp3 players and downloadable music files, I found myself listening on repeat to Teardrops On My Guitar. It’s still vivid in my memory how every night, I would borrow my mom’s phone and listen to the song on loop until the phone’s battery die out.

Teardrops On My Guitar

I still had no idea who the singer was nor had any interest on finding out who sang the song. All I cared about that time is that I loved the song so much, even though I was still too young to understand its lyrics back then, lol. Came 2010, Swift’s songs, namely Love Story and You Belong With Me became top hits in the global music charts. Without knowing, I was slowly becoming a fan of her music.

Love Story

You Belong With Me

Fast forward to high school freshman year, a new friend of mine was a diehard Swift fan and since we got very close, he has influenced me big-time into becoming a Swiftie. Since then, everything has changed for me and my fangirling life. I started looking up her song lyrics online, memorizing each of them even the unreleased ones, decoding secret messages, and singing my heart out to her songs.

What I loved the most about her music really are the lyrics. She is indeed one lyrical genius. Since I am one who loves to write poems, I found an inspiration for my works. I have never thought before that my love for her music would still be alive several years later. And here I am, it’s been a long time coming but I finally came to see her! 🥹

Pre-Concert Stuff

Sometime in June 2023, Taylor announced her international tour dates. Sadly in Asia, only Japan and Singapore were the two countries she'll be playing at. But without second thoughts, I and my closest friend who happens to be a Swiftie also never had second thoughts on securing tickets for one of the Singapore shows. I am so glad that I already saved up enough money to purchase a ticket that already has a decent view of the stage.

In queue, with multiple browsers opened for more chances of securing the tickets faster.

Finally secured the tickets!

July 2023, the ticket selling happened. I was lucky enough to have a friend who got an access code to purchase a ticket through Ticketmaster Singapore’s online website. While we waited on queue, we nervously prayed that we’d get the seats we wanted. After two hours, it was our turn to choose seats and purchase. There was a little panic but I reminded myself to focus greatly, and viola! We survived the great war and was able to secure four Category 3 tickets! I was so happy and excited already.

Me, right after being able to secure tickets 😭

Last Minute Friendship Bracelets

One of Taylor’s songs say ”so make the friendship bracelets” and fans all over the world has taken that line seriously. They made friendship bracelets, exchanged them with other Swifties on tour, and had a blast meeting new wonderful people.

Because it has quite become a tradition - the trading of friendship bracelets - and it seems to be so fun to do, I and my friend decided last minute to make some and trade them during the concert night. We ordered some beads online and prayed that they’d arrive weeks before the concert so we can still make the bracelets, lol.

Thankfully, the beads arrived a week after we have placed the orders. Honestly, I am not into the crafts of bracelet-making because it demands so much patience, especially with the smaller beads. Unexpectedly, I enjoyed making cute designs and found myself making 15 bracelets in less than a month. That was already a lot for someone whose patience is too little, a.k.a. ME! 😅

D-DAY! 🫶🏼

I counted days, I counted miles, to see you there. It’s been a long time coming! It’s the day I’ve been waiting and preparing for. I literally flew more than 2000 miles to see this show. It was my first time to ever attend to her concert and my first time to travel outside the Philippines. By the way, the concert was held at the National Stadium in Singapore. I was so nervous and excited to see my decade-long idol.

I decided to dress in my Lover era. Taylor never required us to dress according to a specific era but because Swifties are too extra, it has become an SOP to do so. And everyone was truly up for it, because why not?

Before the gates opened, we met Swifties coming from different parts of Asia and exchanged bracelets with them. To meet them in person instead of interacting online was such a fun experience! Imagine meeting people who have the same interests as you, it's as if you truly belong with the group.

When the gates opened and we finally got in, it still felt so surreal to be standing inside that stadium, waiting for time to pass by until Taylor comes up on that stage 🥺

But before Taylor's performance, Sabrina Carpenter performed as the opening act for the show. She sang at least five songs, in which the only song I knew is her hit Nonsense. She is widely known to have unique outros every single show and ours was:

“This crowd ate me up like I’m an almond
I swear I’m coming back here, that’s a promise
You cleared all my Singa-pores, I’m flawless”

I don't know if it is to make sense or it's literally made to be nonsense! Lol.

Two minutes before the clock points at 7PM, the show's timer appeared. We waited until it was 10 seconds left and people began to scream the remaining time before the main show finally begins. And in those seconds, all my Swiftie memories run through my mind and I felt so overwhelmed, I had to hold back my tears.

It’s been a long time coming..

The moment Taylor made an appearance on the stage, my tears were already falling nonstop! I had goosebumps all over my body as I can't believe that happened. My heart was beating to the sound of the drums. What I once dreamed of, was in front of me at that moment.

The concert took place for three hours. Imagine her singing and dancing nonstop for three hours. I greatly salute her for such stamina. And the overall production, it was so creative and it was obvious how much effort she and her team had put on it. My money spent on the ticket was totally worth it!

I said remember this moment
In the back of my mind
The time we stood with our shaking hands
The crowds in stands went wild

As the lyrics from her song Long Live says, I will definitely remember this night. This was, by far, the most beautiful memory I have in this lifetime. 😍
