The guys from Shotnez don't seem to take the regularity of releasing new material on vinyl too seriously. There can be a gap of several years between one new release and the next one. But that doesn't affect the quality in any way. Maybe it even has an inspiring effect.

Mit der Regelmäßigkeit bei der Produktion von neuem Material auf Vinyl scheinen sie es nicht so genau zu nehmen, die Jungs von Shotnez. Da können dann zwischen der einen oder anderen Neuerscheinung durchaus mehrere Jahre ins Land ziehen. Was jedoch die Qualität in keinerlei Hinsicht schadet – vielleicht sogar inspirierend wirkt.

Founded 20 years ago in New York, Shotnez have always remained true to their musical roots, leaving behind the almost typical sound of East Coast jazz and weaving their arrangements into the sounds and rhythms of the Balkans, the African continent and the Eastern Mediterranean as far as Israel.

Vor 20 Jahren in New York gegründet, sind Shotnez konsequent ihrer musikalischen Linie treu geblieben und lassen dabei den fast typischen Sound des Ostküsten-Jazz links liegen und binden ihre Arrangements in den Sound und Rhythmus des Balkans, des afrikanischen Kontinents und des östlichen Mittelmeers bis nach Israel.

Who are the people behind the name Shotnez? Itamar Ziegler (formerly of Blackyards), Uri Kinrot (Boom Pam), Ori Kaplan and Tamir Muskat. What do these four musicians have in common? Each of them has already made a name for himself by producing the most diverse styles.

Wer verbirgt sich überhaupt hinter dem Namen Shotnez? Als da wären Itamar Ziegler (früher Blackyards), Uri Kinrot (Boom Pam), Ori Kaplan und Tamir Muskat. Was verbindet alle vier Musiker? Jeder von Ihnen hat sich bereits einen Namen als Produzent der unterschiedlichsten Stilrichtungen gemacht.

While Ori and Tamir have played a not insignificant role on the road to success of the so-called Balkan beat, the other two have been active in everything from hip hop to jazz. By the way, and this should not go unmentioned, most of the productions do not take place in the lavish studios of the big record companies, but rather, almost hidden away, very close to Tel Aviv.

Während Ori und Tamir eine nicht unwichtige Rolle auf dem Erfolgsweg des sogenannten Balkan-Beats spielten, waren die beiden Anderen vom Hip-Hop bis zum Jazz tätig. Übrigens, und dies sollte nicht unerwähnt bleiben, entstehen die meisten Produktionen nicht in aufwendigen Studios der großen Plattenfirmen, sondern, beinahe schon versteckt, ganz in der Nähe von Tel Aviv.

Shotnez have released seven albums so far, are now only temporarily based in the USA, and profess to remain true to their unusual, exciting and varied mix of jazz, Balkan harmonies and African beats. The guys themselves probably don't know when to expect a new release.

Shotnez haben bislang sieben Alben veröffentlicht, leben inzwischen nur noch zeitweise in den USA und bekunden, auch weiterhin ihrem ungewöhnlichen, spannenden und abwechslungsreichen Mix aus Jazz, Balkan-Harmonien und dem afrikanischen Beat treu zu bleiben. Wann mit einer Neuerscheinung zu rechnen ist, das wissen die Jungs wohl selbst nicht genau.
