Please welcome the Jazz-Lady from Vermont on stage,

whose musical career has grown out of the connections of the heart.

It's not just any talented musician who gets called into the studio by Herbie Hancock, Tom Petty, Dave Matthews, Carlos Santana, the Rolling Stones or Christian McBride to work on new projects. No, we are talking about trumpeter and vocalist Jennifer Hartswick. The great performer who, after studying in New York, wanted to move back to Vermont as soon as possible.

Wenn jemand von Herbie Hancock, Tom Petty, Dave Mattews, Carlos Santana, den Rolling Stones oder Christian McBride ins Studio gerufen wird, um an neuen Projekten mitzuarbeiten, dann reden wir nicht von irgendeiner Musikerin mit Talent. Nein, dann ist die Rede von der Trompeterin und Sängerin Jennifer Hartswick. Jener tollen Interpretin, die eigentlich, nach einer Ausbildung in New York, schon alles hinschmeißen und so rasch wie möglich zurück nach Vermont wollte.

Although she is still so young, she is already receiving critical acclaim for her honest, soulful, refreshing and mature interpretations on stage. And it all started when Trey Anastasio asked her if she'd like to form a band with him and go on tour with him. Instead of hiding out in the old country, she agreed.

Obwohl noch so jung, wird sie bereits heute von den Kritikern für ihre ehrliche, gefühlvolle, erfrischende und gleichzeitig so reif klingenden Interpretationen auf der Bühne gefeiert. Und all dies begann, als sie von Trey Anastasio gebeten wurde, nur ja sich nicht in der alten Heimat zu verstecken, sondern lieber mit ihm eine Band zu gründen und Gefallen am Leben mit der Musik auf Tour zu finden.

Though Jennifer Hartswick started out playing Blues and R&B, she soon moved into Jazz. What is particularly fascinating, not only in her performances but also in her compositions, is the playfully easy transition from singing to playing the trumpet. She describes her passion in the following way "It's about the experience you have when it's a live show, the experience we have on stage and the interaction with the audience, the experience they have watching us. Not just about making a new record".

Zwar anfänglich noch im Blues und R&B beheimatet, wechselte Jennifer Hartswick doch schon bald in das Genre des Jazz. Insbesondere faszinierend, nicht einzig bei ihren Auftritten, sondrn auch in ihren Kompositionen, ist der spielerisch leichte Übergang vom Gesang zum Trompeten-Spiel. Sie beschreibt ihre Leidenschaft so: »Es geht um das Erlebnis, das man hat, wenn es eine Live-Show ist, das Erlebnis, das wir auf der Bühne haben, und die Interaktion mit dem Publikum, das Erlebnis, das sie beim Zuschauen haben. Nicht lediglich um das Produzieren einer LP.«

Whenever Jennifer performs the classics My Funny Valentine, Summertime or You Can't Take That Away From Me, the audience often feels like they're hearing the song for the first time. To put it simply, she has the rare ability to take almost any song and make it her own. Considering that this young lady originally wanted to be an actress, this is a real stroke of luck for the listener.

Das Publikum hat oft das Gefühl, wenn Jennifer die Klassiker My Funny Valentine, Summertime oder You Can’t Take That Away From Me interpretiert, den Song zum ersten Mal zu hören. However, there is no denying that she was practically born with music in her cradle. Her family, more or less at home in classical music, familiarised her with various instruments from an early age. Jennifer Hartswick's repertoire includes not only the trumpet, but also the piano, saxophone, clarinet, and flute. Despite all this talent, she did not know for a long time what potential actually lay dormant in her.

Allerdings ist auch nicht zu leugnen, die Musik quasi bereits in die Wiege gelegt bekommen zu haben. Die Familie, mehr oder weniger in der klassischen Musik beheimatet, machte sie von Kindesbeinen an mit den verschiedensten Instrumenten vertraut. So gehören in das Repertoire von Jennifer Hartswick nicht nur die Trompete, sondern auch das Klavier, Saxofon, Klarinette und die Flöte. Trotz all dem Talent wusste sie lange Zeit nicht, welches Potenzial eigentlich in ihr schlummert.

A quote from Jennifer Hartswick in this regard is worth noting: "I had no idea who I was or what my own voice was. I struggled for a couple of years just to be myself. Things kind of fell into place. That's how I feel in general. I try to stay open, trust my gut and let things happen. Then maybe something wonderful will happen.”
