When jazz takes over the dance floor

Footprints will be counted after the concert!

There are probably an infinite number of projects and footprints that are comparable in number to the sands of the sea. But if jazz sneaks into the project and focuses on the activity of the foot, then Berlin is the location. For it is there, in the German metropolis, that the ten-man formation that calls itself the Footprint Project is based.

Projekte gibt es wohl unzählige und Fußabdrücke, in ihrer Anzahl, etwa vergleichbar wie der Sand am Meer. Doch schleicht sich der Jazz ins Projekt und richtet dabei das Augenmerk auf die Aktivität der Füße - dann sind wir in Berlin an der richtigen Adresse. Denn dort, in der deutschen Metropole, ist die zehnköpfige Formation, welche sich Footprint Projekt nennt, angesiedelt.

Here, jazz is taken in a light-hearted way, mixed with a lot of brass, Afro elements and funk. The never-ending tempo changes create a groove that is so inviting to the dance floor. Or in their own words: “In short: colourful music guaranteed to make you dance, jump and hurt your neck!

Hier wird der Jazz auf die leichte Schulter genommen, mit viel Brass, Afro-Elementen und Funk vermischt. Durch die nicht enden wollenden Tempi-Wechsel entsteht jener Groove, der so sehr zum Tanzen einlädt. Oder, wie sie es selbst ausdrücken: „Kurz gesagt: Bunte Mucke mit Tanz-, Spring- und Nackenschmerzgarantie!“

So, who is behind the Footprint Project anyway? Anton Kowalski – saxophones, Aaron Hentschel - drums, vocals, Elias Lindermann - bass, Lenny Hanselmann - guitar, Jonathan Steffen – trombone, Max Feig - guitar, Max Gogolin - trumpet, Nils Brzoska - beatbox, Moses Yoofee Vester - keyboards and Rokhaya Niang – vocals.

Wer also verbirgt sich überhaupt hinter dem Footprint Projekt? The debut album “Leggi Leggi” was released in 2016. It was only possible to produce it thanks to crowdfunding in order to release it on "Lalonova Records”. Thanks to the positive reception of both the public and the critics, the album “Ask For Directions” was released in 2018.

Das Debüt-Album “Leggi Leggi”, erschienen 2016, konnte nur mithilfe von Crowdfunding realisiert werden, um es anschließend bei “Lalonova Records” veröffentlichen zu können. Dem positiven Zuspruch, seitens des Publikums und der Kritik, ist es zu verdanken, dass 2018 das Album “Ask For Directions” folgen konnte.

It was now that the Footprint project really began to gain momentum. The promoters, who are always looking for new and financially viable bands, first booked the band to tour Germany, which was immediately followed by a festival of gigs throughout Europe. It also turned out that Earth, Wind & Fire were very keen for the Footprint Project to be the opening act for their concerts in Germany.

Jetzt begann das Projekt Footprint so richtig Fahrt aufzunehmen. Die Konzertveranstalter, die ohnehin unablässig nach neuen und auch noch finanzierbaren Formationen Ausschau halten, buchten die Band erst für eine Deutschland-Tour, der sich sofort ein Gig-Festival durch ganz Europa anschloss. Dabei ergab es sich auch, dass “Earth, Wind & Fire” für ihre Deutschland-Konzerte unbedingt das Footprint-Projekt als Vorband im Programm haben wollten.
