Who is Ada Morghe anyway? Her real name is Alexandra Helmig and she was born in Düsseldorf, Germany in 1975. Let's see it this way, she could be described as an artist of many talents. But this characterization does not do justice to Ms Helmig's work by any means. Music, film, theatre, scriptwriter, and children's book author – all that has to be put under one hat. Then perhaps she needs to have two names as well?

Wer ist überhaupt Ada Morghe, die eigentlich Alexandra Helmig heißt und 1975 in Düsseldorf geboren wurde. Grob umschrieben könnte man sie als eine vielseitige Künstlerin beschreiben. Doch wird diese Charakterisierung der Arbeit von Frau Helmig bei Weitem nicht gerecht. Musik, Film, Theater und Drehbuch und Kinderbuch-Autorin - all dies muss unter einen Hut gebracht werden. It all began with her training as a theatre actress in Hamburg, where she got her first engagement at the local Kammerspiele theatre. It was then that she started to write scripts for the theatre. Performances at the Thalia in Hamburg and the Burgtheater in Vienna brought her first successes. Incidentally, the film Frau Mutter Tier is based on a play by Alexandra Helmig.

Alles startete mit der Theaterausbildung in Hamburg, wo sie in den dortigen Kammerspielen ihr erstes Engagement erhielt. Bereits damals begann sie mit dem Verfassen von Drehbüchern für das Theater. Die ersten Erfolge damit kamen mit Aufführungen am Thalia in Hamburg sowie dem Burgtheater in Wien. Der Film Frau Mutter Tier basiert übrigens auf einem Theaterstück von Alexandra Helmig.

It was this film, in 1919, that brought the artist into the limelight as a musician. Even though she had been releasing albums under the pseudonym Ada Morghe since 2013. However, her musical breakthrough did not come until she composed the soundtrack for the film Woman Mother Animal. The album Pictures, produced at the Abbey Studios, sold one million copies (a sensation for a jazz production).

Das Album Pictures, das in den Abbey-Studios produziert wurde, verkaufte sich (als Jazz-Produktion sensationell) eine Million Mal.

Music critics refer to Ada Morghe's musical style as "The-Jazz-Thing", which roughly means that even the most ardent jazz haters can be won over to this style of music. However, what sets her compositions apart from pop music is the fact that each musician in the studio has a free hand in the interpretation of the theme.

Musikkritiker nennen den musikalischen Stil von Ada Morghe das Jazzding, was ungefähr so viel bedeutet, dass auch die eigentlichen Jazz-Hasser für diese Stilrichtung gewonnen werden kann. Was ihre Kompositionen jedoch grundsätzlich vom Pop unterscheidet, ist die Tatsache, dass im Studio jedem Musiker die freie Interpretation des Themas überlassen wird.

What's more, every track is always a live recording - there is no post-production. There is no recording of the individual instruments and no subsequent mixing of them. As she herself says: "In the beginning, I only had a blurred picture in my head. Little by little it became a complete picture. I had faith in my intuition and in my musicians, and my producer had faith in me".

Was noch dazu kommt, ist der Umstand, dass jeder Titel immer live eingespielt wird. Kein Einspielen der einzelnen Instrumente und kein anschließendes Mischen. Sie selbst sagt: "Am Anfang hatte ich ein verschwommenes Bild im Kopf. Stück für Stück wurde es zu einem vollständigen Bild. Ich vertraute auf meine Intuition und meine Musiker, und mein Produzent vertraute mir."
