Full moon drum circles, or any drum circles can be a lot of fun to attend as well as relaxing, or meditative. One may attend to sing, dance, drum, or partake however they choose. The energy of such events can be interesting in various ways. The experience can be a little different for everyone. Some are more into certain aspects of such an event than others.

Such events occur in many places around the world too. Some more formal while others may be more informal. Some free, some with some form of fee, or membership. This may depend on costs, or permits needed for the area it is being held in.

May have more or less drummers depending how many are available to play for the event in the community.

From all walks of life they come: managers, labourers, families, children, grandparents, men and women of all ages and cultural backgrounds. On the night of the full moon, these people, up to 300 of them, converge on the Strand Amphitheatre on the famous Townsville esplanade – The Strand – looking out to Magnetic Island and the waters of Cleveland Bay. They come to drum. They come to be a part of what has become a much-anticipated monthly cultural community event – the Full Moon Drum Circle.

They may also have fire dancers / spinners as well at times if such are available to attend. Adding to the entertainment and fun of the event.

Full Moon Drum Circle and Fire Dance

Drum circles originated in the United States in the late 60's and early 70's. While shamanic drumming ceremonies go back to Native American culture.

Do you like to go to drum circles or may be interested in attending you? You should if so, they are a lot of fun!

In 1991, during testimony before the United States Senate Special Committee on Aging, Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart stated:

Typically, people gather to drum in drum "circles" with others from the surrounding community. The drum circle offers equality because there is no head or tail. It includes people of all ages. The main objective is to share rhythm and get in tune with each other and themselves. To form a group consciousness. To entrain and resonate. By entrainment, I mean that a new voice, a collective voice, emerges from the group as they drum together.
