Let's talk about kpop! Are you a fan? I'm honestly not a fan but since the last few years I'm liking it a lot. The first band that really turned me on was black pink with the song ice cream ft Selena Gomez (and I swear this story has a point) and for a whole day I couldn't stop hitting "play again" on the song. Yes, it was happening! I started getting to know kpop and nothing more than with one of the biggest bands, reaching worldwide fame, they even got people (like me) on the other side of the world without knowing any English or Korean, to start singing their songs.

When a song breaks the language barrier it is undoubtedly because it is a song that is impacting pop culture and I thought that black pink was one of those few bands that put everyone to dance with their compositions, until I saw in TikTok a group of 5 girls, beautiful dancing and performing a song that at the first phrase I was already humming it. When I saw them I could only think: "Oh no, I see myself falling into the kpop nets again" And that was it, I had not finished listening to the song when I started to become obsessed with the song and the choreography.

The famous song is an original song by the band (G)I-dle and it's called: "Queen Card" and I have several things to highlight about this theme song, so let's start with the name. In Korean culture they call Queen Card to those girls who set trends, and besides this fact the music video tells the story of a girl who regrets having plastic surgery, making a social criticism of the high demand for cosmetic surgeries in Korea just to meet the canons of beauty so demanding that only they themselves have imposed.

The video clip seems to me a tribute to pop culture because it is full of references, in fact they replicate the mythical dance battle of the movie "White chiks" And they also name Kim Kardashian and Ariana Grande, illustrious characters of today's pop culture. I liked the official videoclip so much that I went to their previous videos and discovered that the stories of their videos have continuity, which I thought was great because this way they keep the public in expectation of what will be their next release and how will the story of the girl who did not accept her physique end?

Going back to the lyrics of the song, I was a bit surprised by what they were saying because what I can mostly appreciate about Korean culture on the internet is that they are a pretty conservative society and this group dared to say quite explicit things about their body but with a positive approach of empowerment and not sexualizing or objectifying women's bodies.

All this story is accompanied by a very TikTok style choreography that besides being easy was super cool and fun to do with your friends. So "Queen Card" seemed to me the new theme of the moment with a lot of originality that mixes irreverence and feminine empowerment.

¡Hablemos del kpop! ¿Son fanáticos? Yo honestamente no soy fan pero desde hace unos últimos años me está gustando bastante. La primera banda que me flechó fue black pink con la canción ice cream ft Selena Gomez (y les juro que esta historia tiene un punto) y por un día completo no pude dejar de darle a "reproducir de nuevo" a la canción. ¡Sí, estaba pasando! Empecé a conocer al kpop y nada más que con una de las bandas más grandes, alcanzando fama mundial, incluso lograron que personas (como yo) al otro lado del mundo sin saber nada del inglés o coreano, empezará a cantar sus canciones.

Cuando una canción rompe esa barrera del idioma sin duda es porque es un tema que está impactado a la cultura pop y yo pensaba que black pink era de esas pocas bandas que ponen a todo el mundo a bailar con sus composiciones, hasta que vi en TikTok una agrupación de 5 chicas, bellísimas bailando e Interpretando un tema que a la primera frase ya la estaba tarareando. Al verlas solo pude pensar: "Oh no, ya me vi cayendo en las redes del kpop otra vez" Y dicho y hecho, no había terminado de escuchar la canción cuando ya empecé a obsesionarme con el tema y la coreografía.

La famosa canción es original de la banda (G)I-dle y se llama: "Queen Card" y tengo varias cosas de resaltar sobre este tema musical, así que empecemos por el nombre. En la cultura coreana se le llama Queen Card a aquellas chicas que marcan tendencia, y a demás de este dato el vídeo musical narra la historia de una chica que se arrepiente de hacerse una cirugía plástica, haciendo una crítica social a la gran demanda por cirugías estéticas en Corea solo para cumplir los cánones de belleza tan exigente que solo ellos mismos se han impuesto.

El videoclip me parece todo un homenaje a la cultura pop porque está lleno de referencia, de hecho replican la mítica batalla de baile de la película "¿Dónde están las rubias?" Y también nombran a Kim kardashian y a Ariana Grande, personajes ilustres de la cultura pop actual. Mee gustó tanto el videoclip oficial que me fui a sus vídeo anteriores y descubrí que las historias de sus videos tienen continuidad, lo cual me pareció una genialidad porque así mantienen a la expectativa al público sobre cuál será su próxima entrega y de ¿Cómo terminará la historia de la chica que no aceptaba su físico?

Regresando a la letra de la canción, me sorprendió un poco lo que decían porque lo que mayormente puedo apreciar de la cultura coreana en internet es que son una sociedad bastante conservadora y está agrupación se atrevió a decir cosas bastante explícitas sobre su cuerpo pero con un enfoque positivo de empoderamiento y no de sexualizar o cosificar el cuerpo de las mujeres.

A todo este cuento lo acompaña una coreografía muy al estilo de TikTok que a parte de fácil se fue súper genial y muy divertido para hacerlo con tus amigas. Así que "Queen Card" me pareció el nuevo tema del momento con mucha originalidad que mezcla irreverencia y empoderamiento femenino con el kpop.
