AFRI-TUNES WEEK 165// OMEKANNAYA (COVER) by Mercy Chinwo π
Heya Cubs π, Good morning, Good afternoon, Good evening. Depends on when you see this π₯².
So, today, I'm going to be performing one of my all-time favorites.Btw( By the way), I usually sing it every time; fellowships, gatherings, and music clubs π₯Ήπ .
It's a gospel song titled Jesus Omekannaya by Mercy Chinwo.
It contains some igbo lyrics, so don't worry, I'll translate π₯°.
My reason for choosing this song is because of the way the lyrics speak volumes. The way it doesn't scream your thoughts but whispers it. Every line is a testimony, a hallelujah to a situation deemed impossible.
You know, life is so private that no one knows what people are going through. Many may not understand it either. They can always sit on the sidelines and judge.
This song has always been stuck rent-free in my head ever since the testimony of one lady in my church.
She told us that, for 5 years ever since she graduated from university, she has neither gotten a job nor a husband, and she is turning 30 this year. Why? She refused to conform her principles and follow the crowd. She shared how she had been mocked and ridiculed. They asked where her principles had gotten her to. She said that God had been faithful to her and told them that her time would come that God is not a man. She explained how she went through problems after problems and how she was she nearly gave up. After talking for a while, she went to her bag and brought out a file. She presented her wedding card and her letter of employment, also saying that she would be paid #200,000 monthly with a promise of a raise. She also said that some of those who mocked her were dead or going through one crisis or the other.
Their succcess were not genuine or long-term. She broke down into tears after a while and started singing this song. She said that her mother used it to encourage and advise her during these years. As she broke down to the point where she racked loud sobs and was words were inaudible, I sat at the back, I wept too.
"Men may not... understand what you mean to me. " were her last words as her mom with tears in her own eyes came to the stage to take her in.
After this encounter, I googled the song, looking at the lyrics and remembering what she had said, I was movedπ₯Ί.
This song has been my source of comfort ever since, and I hope it can be yours too.
Isaiah 41:10 (GNB)
Do not be afraid - I am with you, I am your God-let, nothing terrify you, I will make you strong, and HELP YOU: I will protect you and save you.
I will end this blog with Psalm 121: 1-3 (GNB)
I look to the mountains; where will my help come from?
My help will come from the lord, who has made heaven and earth.
He will not let you fall; your protector is always awake.
This verse explained to me what she meant when she said men may not understand.
I hope you listen to the song and be blessed.
Stay safe, stay healthy, and see you in the next one βοΈπ₯Ίπ.
