The Power of Movie Soundtracks: How They Shape Our Emotions and Memories

I grew up being a big fan of music, although not as someone who dreams of being a musician, but I like it and enjoy listening to it. I can remember also singing along to many, even joining in different musical stunts like ad-libbing as though I'm a pro singer, and one way I've come to enjoy music more is via musical movies and soundtracks. I've come to have quite a collection of my favorites that I'll love to tell you about.

One interesting thing about movie soundtracks is that they usually carry a message that goes beyond just movies but preaches a message about the storyline of the movie or something else related to it; some are part of the storyline, and you'll need to be conversant with the lyric to know what's actually going on. I've watched numerous movies whose soundtracks protray this, and others that are just interesting and made me fall in love with the movie more.

So without further ado, let me take you through the list of my favorite movies, soundtracks, and musicals that I enjoyed the songs in. These are interesting, and I'm sure you'll have either heard and loved some of them or would love them when you listen to them now, so let's get into it.

This little light of mine(in the movie Let It Shine): This is a song I so much loved while growing up. I so much loved the movie Let It Shine when I first watched it, and one of the songs that caught my attention was Let It Shine, which was sung in the later part of the movie. It carries a message that's beyond just the movie but can also serve as a motivation to not let ourselves be limited but to let out light shine on the world as we go on to do amazing things.

Me and you (in the movie Let It Shine): If you've watched the movie Let It Shine, you'll know Cyrus fell in love with Roxie and wrote a song for her, but because of how shy he was, his friend Kris went on to take the credit because he was handsome, but as time went on, he couldn't deliver to show he's a singer, and this song, Me and You, was what broke the jinx, and where Cyrus revealed himself to her, the lyrics carry power, and I remember how we young teenagers that year used the lyrics and other songs in the movie as a punchline to woo your girls back then.

See you again. (in the movie Furious 7): This is a very emotional song that I so much love, and it was sung as a tribute to popular actor Paul Walker, who died in a car accident. He used to be part of the star of that same movie Fast and Furious until his death, and this soundtrack is one that not only reminds me of him but also reminds me of my lost loved ones, and it usually moves me to tears.

Eji Owuro (in the movie Eji Owuro): This is the first song I heard from the renowned Shola Allyson, who now happens to be my favorite musician. It was the soundtrack to a Nollywood movie titled Eji Owuro. It's a love movie, and her song captures the hearts of many even more than the movie does; it was the song that brought her to the limelight and also a household song most people back then learned from as a blueprint for how to treat and interact with their spouse, and I'm a big fan of that song to this day.

The Train (in the movie The Train): This is the soundtrack of a Mount zoin movie, a Christian movie group, and the movie showcases how the group began years ago and the challenges they face through the years. The time song is one I love because of its powerful messages that cut across, letting us know that every man has a purpose, the need to answer God's calls and board the train to a greater harvest for the kingdom without holding back. As a Christian, I resonate with this and see this song as a reminder of the need to stay on track and not waver due to challenges and the like.

That's about it, and like I said earlier, movie soundtracks are way behind just a song; they're an extension of storytelling in a unique way that leaves the audience glued to the screen and yarn to revisit such a movie for the message that it carries. They've given me deeper connections with the movie and given me memories to look back on, as well as feeding me valuable lessons.

WOW 😲! I love that movie alot- let it shine. The first time I watched it I was so mad with that guy for being shy, but at the end it all ended up well because they both got back together and sang a beautiful song in the church.
Thanks for sharing
