Hola, ¿qué tal, amigos? ¿Cómo están? Aunque me había acostumbrado al reposo y a estar en casa cómodamente, frustrada por algunas cosas y por otras no tanto, la verdad es que me hacían mucha falta mis niños. Diría yo que demasiado. Cuando uno es maestro, muchas veces experimentamos agotamiento mental, pero más allá de eso, el amor por enseñar a los más pequeños es algo totalmente invaluable y significativo para quien lo hace.
Hi, how’s it going, everyone? How are you all doing? Even though I’d gotten used to resting and staying comfortably at home—frustrated by some things and not so much by others—the truth is that I really missed my kids. I’d say I missed them too much. When you’re a teacher, we often experience mental exhaustion, but beyond that, the love for teaching young children is something truly priceless and meaningful to those who do it.
Hace unos días les compartí mi experiencia sobre cómo celebramos el Día del Cuatro en el programa de los más chiquitos, donde tuvimos una "orquesta de papel" de cuatros. A los que son un poquito más grandes, les brindamos una experiencia muy bonita familiarizarse con un cuatro real. Ese día me llevé una lección increíble, porque a veces siento que subestimamos mucho a los niños y somos nosotros quienes los limitamos; sin embargo, es totalmente lo contrario.
A few days ago, I shared my experience with you about how we celebrated Cuatro Day in the program for the youngest children, where we had a “paper orchestra” of cuatros. For the slightly older kids, we gave them a wonderful opportunity to get familiar with a real cuatro. That day taught me an incredible lesson, because sometimes I feel like we underestimate children a lot and it’s us who limit them; however, it’s actually the complete opposite.
En una clase, les enseñé un solo acorde: Re Mayor, utilizando el cuarto dedo. En cuanto al rasgueo, solo hicimos negras hacia abajo. Por supuesto, pensé en una canción que fuese fácil, que ellos conocieran y a la que le encontraran sentido. A pesar de que la pieza tenía otro acorde, yo me aseguraba de marcarlo de una manera más fuerte al momento de que ellos estuvieran ejecutando su único acorde y cantando. Créanme, ¡salió espectacular!
In one class, I taught them a single chord: D major, using the fourth finger. As for strumming, we only played quarter notes downstroke. Of course, I chose a song that was easy, that they knew, and that they could relate to. Even though the song had another chord, I made sure to play it louder whenever they were playing their single chord and singing. Believe me, it turned out spectacular!
Además de esto, usé una técnica que empleaban mis profesores cuando yo era muy pequeña y tocaba viola colocar un papelito con cinta adhesiva en el sitio donde tenían que poner su dedo. Esto les sirvió muchísimo, pues era una referencia visual clara de la ubicación exacta, facilitando el proceso a pesar de que no tenían el mejor agarre o se les hacía un poco complicado. Al final, cada uno de ellos lo logró.
In addition to this, I used a technique that my teachers employed when I was very young and playing the viola: I placed a small piece of paper secured with tape where they needed to place their finger. This helped them a great deal, as it served as a clear visual cue for the exact location, making the process easier even though they didn’t have the best grip or found it a bit challenging. In the end, each of them succeeded.
Me llena de orgullo saber que tanto mi compañera como yo estamos preparando niños capaces, súper inteligentes y con muchas ganas de seguir aprendiendo. Por eso digo que trabajar con niños es algo mágico; cada día te enseñan más de lo que tú puedes enseñarles a ellos. Cada niño te deja un aprendizaje nuevo e incluso un "yo sí puedo", aun cuando ellos mismos no tienen idea de cómo hacerlo. Esa es la belleza y la inocencia de la niñez.
It fills me with pride to know that both my colleague and I are helping to raise capable, highly intelligent children who are eager to keep learning. That’s why I say that working with children is magical; every day they teach you more than you can teach them. Every child leaves you with a new lesson and instills a sense of “I can do it,” even when they themselves have no idea how to do it. That is the beauty and innocence of childhood.
