Soulfly Holland, 08-07-2023
I will never forget, PinkPop 1996. A big festival in the Netherlands where Sepultura played, then with Max and Igor Cavalera. I didn't know what hit me, such an overwhelming show, full of energy and heavy guitar riffs. The Brazilian influences and instruments made it complete... What a great band. 2 years later I went with my brother to Graspop Metal Meeting, in Belgium. We went for Black Sabbath and Dream theater, but there we first met Soulfly, Max Cavalera's new band. This performance really impressed me, just like Sepultura she played with so much passion, energy and such compelling riffs, you just couldn't stand still.
I haven't really followed them anymore, you're getting older, aren't you ;) But my old neighbor alerted me to a concert of them in Hengelo, not so far from where I live. My youngest son wanted to come along, he thinks it's great music too. He has had a rather unpleasant period and still ahead of him, we immediately made it a pleasant evening. We went by train to Hengelo, so I could also drink a beer (look @meesterboom, ever tried this one?). We first had a nice snack in a cozy restaurant, on the terrace. Chilling out with just the two of us. After dinner we walked to the concert hall, it was near the station so nice and easy
It was 31 degrees celcius, so really hot. But that didn't spoil the fun. First a nice beer and then inside. The support act was Mountain Eye I had never heard of them, but they were realy awesome.

After Mountain Eye there was a little break, and then Soulfly cam on stage.....From the first minute they were on fire, energy, fun on stage and superb musicality...
we were standing in front of the Bassplayer. He was such a fun guy, interacting with the audience. He had a great technique, slapping and fingerstyle mixed... And a overwhelming sound.
From the first untill the last it was really a blast, the heat could't care us anymore, everybody was on fire :)
My son got lucky, he cathed the pick of the guitarist, so his day was made :)
We had a great time and made another memory. Wouldn't have missed this one for the world. Havinf fun and quality time with my youngest and seeing this awesome band..
Take care,
Peter
I've never caught a pick at a gig, so I'm jealous. Looks like you both enjoyed it.

We really did, it was a great Father - Son afternoon/night :) Only pick I once caught was a pick of Steve Vai... Many years ago :)
I'd love a Steve Vai pick. I saw him live a long time ago.

.Lol. I haven't tried that one.
I always wanted to go to graspop, it's meant to be awesome
It really is, last year we went, my son, brother and me. Lot's a big names. Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Scorpions, Whitesnake and many more. It was awesome !!
The pick is totally awesome. I would love to catch a pick at a gig sometime too like @steevc. The beer looks delicious as well! What a great time! This looks like the kind of show my good friend would enjoy. He is a huge metal fan.
The beer is from a Island belonging to the Netherlands "Texel" , and the beer is called (free translation) foam head. It is delicious indeed... I love the show and the quality time :) .. Last month we went to Slipknot together, in a bigger venue, that was great too. Will do a post soon :)
Looking forward to it! I have a few concerts lined up for the rest of the summer. I just heard Cheap Trick is coming local, so I might be adding another one!
