Good gifts
My brother recently surprised me with a gift: a new pair of headphones. And even though I’d been reluctant to use wireless headphones, ever since I got them I’ve been as excited as a kid with a new toy.
They're really convenient. While I'm doing chores around the house, I keep myself entertained with the music from my headphones. I used to do something similar with my wired headphones, but there were some downsides—for example, I had to carry a bag to keep my phone in. If I wanted to listen to a podcast on YouTube while doing other things, I had to make sure the screen didn’t rub against anything else in the bag, and if my hands were wet and I needed to check something on my phone, it was a bit of a hassle.
I’m flattered by my brother; this is the second time he’s given me a birthday gift, and he’s hit the nail on the head both times. Last year he surprised me with a new pair of shoes, and boy did I need them at the time, even if I didn’t say so. I realized he’s very observant and thoughtful, even though I rarely see him.
As for headphones, I can hardly live without them—or rather, I love having them, and most of the time they break pretty quickly, so I’m always buying new ones; my brother didn’t know any of that. Even so, he got the gift just right.
I start to think that first he must have had the impulse to want to give me something, then he thought of something I’d really like and find useful, he took the time to go to the store to pick it out, he spent money on the gift, and he even gave it to me in a nice bag... That thoughtful gesture, which includes so many little details, means a lot to me, and even though I wasn’t expecting any gifts, it felt good to receive it.
Today I’m still using my new headphones, and what better way to do so than by listening to the music I love while I clean the kitchen and make my lunch, with the peace of mind that I have the whole afternoon ahead of me to relax at home.
How annoying are people who give a gift just for the sake of giving one. I love gifts that are chosen with the recipient in mind; I appreciate people who take the time to give a meaningful gift. That’s just how I am: when I’m giving a gift, I try to pick something I think the person will like or something they need; most of the time, I’ve been very successful at it. What about you?

Yes, my brother really surprised me, and he is very thoughtful. He chose the perfect gift; I don't like to live my life without headphones. He picked the perfect gift even though we almost never see each other.

I like receiving useful gifts… but I understand that making a gift can be challenging for someone. And some people take it lightly haha… it’s true that sometimes they give you anything just for the sake of it, yet still, it’s a lovely act at least of remembering you. They could simply not do it.
When you are close to the person and know them well, it becomes easier.
Most of the time, yes, although some people go too far and don't make the slightest effort. For example, giving a lady a box of chocolates and not even trying to find out if she likes them or if she can eat them... Things like that.
In theory, hahaha... I remember that before, my mother used to give me dresses for my birthday, knowing that I hated them and didn't wear them... Ugh, that bothered me a little, I would just end up giving them to my sister who did dress that way
