❤️🎄Our Christmas concert and year-end event 2025: a journey through Christmas in various eras❤️🎄

Hello, my dear music community. I hope you are all well. I'm stopping by to wish you all a very happy 2026, full of good things, excellent things, and many accomplished goals. After a long period of inactivity, thank God I can be a little more active. On this occasion, I want to share a short recap of the Christmas and New Year's concert by the recorder department, accompanied by a reduction of the Alma Llanera orchestra and the professional ensemble Le Fénix Consort. Hola, mi querida comunidad de música. Espero que se encuentren bien. Paso por aquí para desearles a todos un muy feliz año 2026, lleno de cosas buenas, excelentes y muchas metas cumplidas. Después de un largo tiempo inactiva, gracias a Dios puedo activarme un poco más. En esta oportunidad, quiero compartirles un pequeño recorrido de lo que fue el concierto de Navidad y fin de año de la cátedra de flauta dulce, en compañía de una reducción de la orquesta Alma Llanera y de la agrupación profesional del sistema Le Fénix Consort. Espero que les agrade.

During the first term, from October to December, we focused on performing Venezuelan Renaissance and, of course, Christmas repertoire. In the Christmas section, we were able to develop a medley of popular Venezuelan songs with the beginner children, who performed excellently and learned it very quickly. They are all very studious and outstanding children. In the flute class, the more advanced level worked on pieces such as "Oh Luna," and in the Le Fénix section, we developed a repertoire related to traditional Christmas music and, of course, to Venezuelan Christmas carols, including pieces such as "Ángeles Cantando Están" and "Adeste Fideles." As for the Venezuelan section, we performed classics such as "Aguinaldo Margariteño" and "Gaita Onomatopédica," among others.

Durante el primer trimestre de clases, que abarcó de octubre a diciembre, nos enfocamos en interpretar repertorios venezolanos renacentistas y, por supuesto, navideños. En la sección navideña, pudimos desarrollar un popurrí de temas populares venezolanos con los niños de iniciación, quienes lo hicieron de manera excelente y lo aprendieron muy rápidamente. Todos son niños muy estudiosos y sobresalientes. En la cátedra de flauta, el nivel más avanzado trabajó temas como "Oh Luna", y en la parte de Le Fénix desarrollamos un repertorio relacionado con la Navidad antigua y, por supuesto, con los venezolanos en la parte antigua, incluyendo temas como "Ángeles Cantando Están" y "Adeste Fideles". En cuanto a la parte venezolana, interpretamos clásicos como "Aguinaldo Margariteño" y "Gaita Onomatopédica", entre otros.

We decided to perform the concert at the City Arts Museum, also within the framework of its anniversary. It should be noted that this museum, in times of crisis and pandemic, was unattended and it was not until recently that it entered into reconstruction. The original pieces were sent for maintenance and the museum is now very well preserved. We had the opportunity to see the entire art gallery and the sculptures that predominate there. In addition, the museum staff was very attentive and quite charismatic with us. We have a large audience, including the representatives of the young people, as well as some authorities of the Ministry of Culture who were able to appreciate our participation. Obviously, the group that accompanied us also performed some pieces from their own Christmas repertoire, and it was a very nice work together.

Decidimos realizar el concierto en el museo de artes de la ciudad, también en el marco de su aniversario. Cabe destacar que este museo, en tiempos de crisis y pandemia, estuvo desatendido y no fue hasta hace poco que entró en reconstrucción. Las piezas originales fueron enviadas a mantenimiento y el museo está ahora muy bien conservado. Tuvimos la oportunidad de ver toda la galería de arte y las esculturas que allí predominan. Además, el personal del museo fue muy atento y bastante carismático con nosotros. Contamos con una audiencia numerosa, entre ellos los representantes de los jóvenes, así como algunas autoridades del ministerio de cultura que pudieron apreciar nuestra participación. Obviamente, el grupo que nos acompañó también interpretó algunas piezas de su propio repertorio navideño, y fue un trabajo en conjunto muy bonito.

In addition to all of this, the community surrounding the museum also joined our concert. We were joined by poets, writers, sculptors, and a group of teenagers from a nearby high school, who participated in the concert by offering a short narrative about the birth of Jesus. All of this significantly strengthened the bond between the community and the various institutions, such as the school system and the museum, among others that promote culture and keep this part of the city alive. We also had the participation of a folk dance school, where we were able to see the Joropo Tuyero, as well as a dance similar to flamenco but with an Aragua style, among other nationalistic dances that I was unaware existed in the state.

Además de todo esto, la comunidad donde se encuentra el museo también se unió a nuestro concierto. Contamos con la presencia de poetas, escritores, escultores y una comisión de adolescentes de uno de los liceos cercanos, quienes participaron en el concierto ofreciendo una pequeña narrativa sobre el nacimiento del Niño Dios. Todo esto reforzó significativamente la unión entre la comunidad y las diferentes instituciones, como el sistema y el museo, entre otras que promueven la cultura y mantienen viva esta parte de la ciudad. También tuvimos la participación de una escuela de danza folclórica, donde pudimos observar el joropo tuyero, así como una danza similar al flamenco, pero con estilo aragüeño, entre otras danzas nacionalistas que desconocía que existían en el estado.

The youngest students did an excellent job. I think the most incredible thing about them is that they have no stage fright and aren't afraid to perform in public; they're quite outgoing and very cheerful. With them, we achieved our main goal. The same thing happened with the middle grades, who, in addition to performing the group repertoire, also presented some soloists with songs like "Niño Jesús Llanero" and "Candelaria." On this occasion, I performed as a soloist with "La Barca de Oro." I must admit it was quite improvised, since, due to unforeseen circumstances, I hadn't been able to rehearse with the accompanying musicians. That same day, 20 minutes before the performance began, I was able to meet them and rehearse with them. We connected very quickly, and everything went very well from beginning to end. I think one of the best things about being a musician is when you connect with other musicians, in the sense that, with just a look, they know when you're going to finish, when you can repeat a section, or if you can improvise. That's one of the beautiful things about music: it's a universal language that allows us to communicate and express ourselves without saying a single word. Of course, it's not ideal, but when it has to be done, well, that's just how it is.

Los más pequeños lo hicieron excelente. Creo que lo más increíble de todo es que no tienen pánico escénico y no les da miedo presentarse en público; son bastante extrovertidos y muy alegres. Con ellos se logró el objetivo principal. Lo mismo ocurrió con los grados medios, quienes, además de montar el repertorio grupal, también presentaron algunos solistas con canciones como "Niño Jesús Llanero" y "Candelaria". En esta oportunidad, yo me presenté como solista con "La Barca de Oro". Debo admitir que fue algo bastante improvisado, ya que, por cuestiones externas, no había podido ensayar con los acompañantes. Ese mismo día, 20 minutos antes de que comenzara la presentación, pude conocerlos y ensayar con ellos. Conectamos bastante rápido y todo salió muy bien de principio a fin. Creo que una de las mejores cosas de ser músico es cuando conectas con otros músicos, en el sentido de que, con una sola mirada, ellos saben cuándo vas a terminar, cuándo puedes repetir o si puedes realizar alguna improvisación. Es algo muy hermoso de la música, que es un lenguaje universal que nos permite comunicarnos y expresarnos sin necesidad de decir una sola palabra. Claro, lo ideal no es hacerlo así, pero bueno, cuando toca, pues ni modo.

The Phoenix also fulfilled its main objectives. We were able to put together a repertoire in the format we've been working with for several seasons: the sextet, sometimes a quintet, and other times a quartet. This season, two new students joined us and have exceeded expectations; they are quite intelligent and bright. We presented not only Venezuelan Christmas music, but also Renaissance and Baroque pieces, in this recorder orchestra format. Of course, we need more flutes, such as the bass and contrabass, among others, but the work has been progressing, and the audience has noticed, which is what's important. Absolutely every piece was perfect, which was our biggest concern. There were a few minor issues on stage due to nerves, but they were easily handled and no one noticed.

La Fénix también cumplió con sus objetivos principales. Pudimos montar un repertorio en el formato que hemos venido trabajando desde hace algunas temporadas: el sexteto, a veces quinteto y en otras ocasiones cuarteto. En esta temporada se han añadido dos nuevos estudiantes que han sabido cumplir con las expectativas; son bastante inteligentes y brillantes. Presentamos no solo música venezolana navideña, sino también renacentista y barroca, en este formato de orquesta de flauta dulce. Claro, nos hacen falta más flautas, como la bajo y la contrabajo, entre otras, pero el trabajo se ha venido realizando y la gente lo ha notado, que es lo importante. Absolutamente todas las piezas salieron perfectas, que era lo que más nos preocupaba. Hubo algunas pequeñas cosas que ocurrieron en escena por los nervios, pero en el momento se supieron controlar y nadie se dio cuenta.

At the end of the presentation, we had a moment to share, and the museum staff allowed the children to paint a bull, one of the most iconic works by José Abreu, a painter from Aragua whose name the museum bears. The children were delighted to paint the bull with the crayons and chalk they were provided, and they thoroughly enjoyed their recreational activity.

Al finalizar toda la presentación, tuvimos un momento para compartir y la gente del museo permitió que los niños pintaran un toro, una de las obras más icónicas de un pintor aragüeño cuyo nombre lleva el museo, José Abreu. Los niños estaban encantados de pintar el toro con los crayones que les proporcionaron, además de las tizas, y disfrutaron mucho de su actividad recreativa.
