Music: an expression of our hearts

It was early in the morning in this part of the world and I was all alone under the silent cover of darkness. The atmosphere was gorged with emotions that could be felt deep within my soul... It all started when I plugged in my earpiece only to come across a song on Spotify — "The way you felt" by Alec Benjamin.

It's quite wonderful how the sound of a reverberating melody can bring out all the emotions that has been buried in our hearts. While listening to the song, I remembered some certain aspects of my life, past experiences, and events. In this beautiful song, the artist, Alec Benjamin, talks about submitting to the power of love only to get his heart broken. He set his all on a girl whom he thought was his everything, someone he thought would be the perfect one for him, but no, his intuitions failed him.

At some point in our lives, we would have felt; or rather, experienced a scenario such as this. I did experience it a whole lot of times before I got married and trust me when I say we need to guard our fragile hearts because they can be broken into pieces, leaving us with an everlasting scar, and I think that's what Alec Benjamin was exploring in this song of his.

Love is always beautiful until it gets broken. Back then, I would easily fall for someone, I'd give my all and bury my heart into my newly found relationship but I found out that the love I thought was actually close to me was in reality, far away from me. It almost felt as though love was a temporary thing, something you shouldn't put your heart into. But how can you love without putting your heart into it? It sounds really strange.

Perhaps I only thought of love that way because of the endless heartbreaks but least we forget, we learn by our life experiences and our thoughts are shaped by what we've seen and been through. Afterall, experience is the best teacher, right?

With time, I had a change of mind as I discovered that love is subjective, imperfect and lastly, dependent on your partner — my husband made me realize this! It's best to not love until we've found the right one.

This song really ate into my soul. Perhaps Alec Benjamin is no stranger to the dynamics of love.

I was lost in between two worlds as I listened to every single word spoken by Alec and my mind flashed back as I reminisced on my life and past experiences. It's indeed amazing how music can trigger emotions and memories, memories of love, laughter, and happiness.

Music is truly love, it's the gateway or rather, the key to unlock forgotten emotions. Nothing else could have put me in such state of reminiscing if not music! Is it the Song? Or perhaps the voice? I don't know... but there's something beautiful about Music that makes it so special, something about the emotions it conveys...
