Ian Gillan is a British singer and songwriter, best known for being the lead singer of the rock band Deep Purple. Yes, that band that used to be famous in the 1970s and is still going around.

Gillan joined Deep Purple in 1969 and became one of the most recognizable voices in rock. He sang on classic albums such as "Machine Head" and "Made in Japan", and his powerful and distinctive vocal style became a trademark of the band.

After his time in Deep Purple, Gillan pursued a solo career and also participated in various musical projects. However, none of them really achieved the same fame and success he had with Deep Purple.

Ian Gillan has been recognized throughout his career with several awards and honors. One of the most notable achievements was his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Deep Purple in 2016.

He sang from 1969 to 1973 with Deep Purple and when he left the band he created his own band called Ian Gilland Band until 1982, in 1983 and 1984 he was with Black Sabbath and later rejoined his former Deep Purple bandmates until 1989, when the tension between Blackmore and him resurfaced again, this time due to musical differences, and the guitarist chose to fire him.

Gillan formed a new version of his first band, Garth Rockett and the Moonshiners, and stayed with it during 1990 and 1991. At the insistence of Glover, Lord, Paice and the record company, Ian Gillan returned to Deep Purple in 1992 and still remains there.

As for his personal life, he was romantically involved with Zoe Dean from 1969 to 1978. In 1984 he married his girlfriend Bron, the couple have two children and three grandchildren, all raised in Scotland. Since the late 2000s, the vocalist resides in southern Portugal.
