π² Music Sunday - Tears of the Dragon π²
Yesterday we had dragons. Today we have more dragons.
My musical pick for this week's music Sunday is Tears of the Dragons, by Bruce Dickinson. This is the first single from Bruce Dickinson's second solo album, Balls to Picasso, that was released on 28 May 1994.
I am not a particular fan of him but this one has been a favorite since the first time I heard it. There's just so much power and emotion behind it and it's a song I often come back to when I need something to cheer me up.
Definitely the best from Bruce Dickinson's career if you ask me, showcasing the best of his vocal range and talent.
Not to mention how he pours his heart and soul in every verse... Always made me think if there's something more personal going on with the song, which is about experiencing and overcoming trauma.
Supposedly in 2002 he commented the following:
"This is a song that I wrote when I left Iron Maiden, and it's about fear, it's about doubt, and it's about trying to conquer the bullshit that's in your life." source
Me, I think there's more goin on. Maybe an ex or the passing of a loved one. I guess we will never know.
Anyways, I think I said enough. Enjoy the official music video. Disclaimer, it's a bit cringy π
Damn... So powerful! Vocals, music, guitar, lyrics. Everything is just... Perfection.
Ok, that's it for today, hope you enjoyed this one ππ
Lyrics
For too long now, there were secrets in my mind
For too long now, there were things I should have said
In the darkness I was stumbling for the door
To find a reason, to find the time, the place, the hour
Waiting for the winter sun, and the cold light of day
The misty ghosts of childhood fears
The pressure is building, and I can't stay away
I throw myself into the sea
Release the wave, let it wash over me
To face the fear I once believed
The tears of the dragon, for you and for me
Where I was, I had wings that couldn't fly
Where I was, I had tears I couldn't cry
My emotions frozen in an icy lake
I couldn't feel them until the ice began to break
I have no power over this, you know I'm afraid
The walls I built are crumbling
The water is moving, I'm slipping away
I throw myself into the sea
Release the wave, let it wash over me
To face the fear I once believed
The tears of the dragon, for you and for me

I never knew of Bruce Dickinson's music, I only knew of Bruce Lee. Haha, he wasn't a singer though.
By the way, this music is a hit as you said. It captures everything. Beautifully sang.
Well he is really popular if metal is your thing. I guess it's not :)
I know why. Thanks for the response.
Haha Dragons again... Dragon tears got that Riz bro..lyrics are so Goood.
Glad you liked itπ
His solo stuff is not bad, but how could you not like Iron Maiden. They are one of the all time great metal bands.
I like maiden, there are just stuff I like more :)
Ok. I totally get that
Lyrics are quite good. There are some songs that cheers our emotions and encourage us to develop skills to do something. Its a kind of motivation.
Yeah, always found this song pumping me with motivation!
gay 90s cringe :P
The best!
Bruce falls in the sea a lot and is embraced by a naked fat Buddha, not bad though. I does turn into a Iron Maiden song for a while (not a bad thing).
Lol, I never figured it was Buddha. Always thought it was some weird fat thing or whatever πππ
I like the chill beginning part before he start yelling π
Yeah, it's a masterpiece from start to finish !
