Sunday Vibes, For Three Tune Tuesday

Even though I no longer live a life where I work Monday to Friday, I still see Sundays as a day of rest. A day to kick back and chill. (Although recently I have found myself working a few Sundays). One way in which I love to chill, is by listening to music. If I can sing along to it as well, then that's an extra bonus.

Both my parents were into different genres of music. My Mum being into more Folk and my dad into Rock, Blues and Jazz. I grew up listening to that music in my home and some of it, I grew to love. It's music I still listen to today, especially on a Sunday.

First up is the one and only Billie Holiday, such an amazing blues and jazz singer. Her voice is so distinctive and I have always found it deeply moving. She has so many amazing songs, so it took me a while to pick one. In the end I chose "All Of Me", one of the songs she sung, that was written by Gerald Marks and Seymour Simons. I love to sing along to that song. It's just so smooth and I can only imagine, what it must have been like to hear her sing it live at a Jazz club, back in the day. With the Trumpet, piano and drums played so well by her band. There is still no one like her today.

I sticking with Jazz, only this time it's the wonderful Ella Fitzgerald, with "Mack The Knife". This song is one that I love to dance along to. Ella, has quite a playful voice with this one and it makes me feel quite playful as well. Whats so impressive, is that she forgot the words of the song halfway through, so she improvised and played around with her voice, making nonesical words called scatting. On top of that, you get to hear how husky her voice can get, she can sing so deep and just as quickly change back. Her range is so impressive and listening to her sing this song, just makes me happy.

To finish off, I had to share some music from Nina Simone. Once again, it was difficult for me to choose just one song, cos so many came to mind. But choose I did and it's "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood". Damn but Nina has such a powerful voice, it's so full of emotion. When I listen to it, I'm singing along at the top of my voice, the words resonating so deeply. Words that resonate so much with a lot of us.
Sinnerman is also a favourite of mine. Check out, our very own @edprivat doing an awesome cover of it here, if you haven't already.

I hope you have enjoyed the music. Shoutout to @ablaze for keeping this going and helping us all to connect with both old and new music.

Oh yeah! These are songs I absolutely love. I have a small/growing collection of all three of these artists on old 78rpm records, and I love them all. These were a great way to start the day today.
