Sulayr Music Festival In Pampaneira

Yesterday evening, I travelled further up into the mountains, to a beautiful Village called Pampaneira. Where the Sulayr Music Festival was taking place.

What I love about this festival, is that it is a showcase of artists who reside in the Alpujarra's, but come from different ethnic backgrounds. Which results in a great fusion of music and culture.

Pampaneira is also my favourite one of the white washed villages, that dot the mountainside. I have been here a few times and I love to explore the narrow streets, which lead to some amazing views like the one in this photo above.

There are also quite a few little restaurant's and bars. All of which are very well priced. I don't usually eat out, but I have on occasion when I visit here. It also has a chocolate factory, that me and my girls love to visit, as you get to sample lots of the chocolate they make and ice cream.

But today, I wasn't here for the chocolate or ice cream, instead i was here to listen to some great music, that was being preformed in some of the highest streets I've climbed.

Which, is a huge appeal for me, as I have a thing for steep hills. I just got to climb them, to see what is up there. And all the music where hidden away around beautiful corners. You could heard the music above you as you climbed.

Which is how we stumbled across this amazing women, singing traditional Spanish songs. The acoustics in the streets, where amazing.

Then it was off to explore some more, to follow the other sounds of music that drifted through the air and see what you would discover.

Another amazing women, singing her own songs, which were wonderful theatrical. Her songs, all carried messages about love and life. She sang with a lot of passion.

Then I was on my way, to watch some friends perform. I had map to follow this time, but to be honest it didn't really help. I had to ask someone directions, as I was worried that I would miss them.

But, I got there, just in time. Just as they had finished setting up. These Two people, are beautiful beings. Very open hearted and humble and they are also really talented. T has such a wonderful voice, she is very playful and her songs are a fusion of Spanish and Arabic. M is an amazing guitar player, he creates the most beautiful sounds when he plays.

After their gig, which was really good. I found myself hungry. (not surprising
, considering all the climbing I did lol.) So I went back to the Vegan food stall I passed when I first arrived. Another thing I love about this area where I live , is that there is a huge variety of food available.

I chose the nachos bowl. Everything else sounded amazing, but I really fancied the nachos. Especially, considering they made the nacho chips themselves. It was topped up with lashings of guacamole, salsa, sour cream and sprouts. They were delicious and really good value.

After that, I went for a walk with a friend, to explore more of the town. Before the music began on the main stage. It was also nice to get away from the buzz of the crowd.

We were like two kids, trying to navigate some of these very steep streets. Especially when we began to descend. I had tontake my boots off, going down the one up above. I just felt safer doing so and plus, the cobbles gave my feet a lovely well deserved massage.

There are numerous springs, that feed this town and we were delighted when we stumbled across this beautiful washing room. Where women could gather to wash their clothes together. I love these old traditions, that bring people together.

After spending some time, just taking in the sights and sounds of this beautiful spot, we decended further in search of some other friends. I didn't take any photos of the main area. I was too busy dancing.

There's nothing quite like discovering a new place, is there? Or finding new spaces in a place you already knew <3 I love this. Makes me miss Spain xD

I was too busy dancing.

What an adventure! I like that you climb hills to see what's up the summit, I think of life like that sometimes. Wish I could have heard the music, I quite enjoy Spanish flamenco so would probably enjoy this. I'm glad you had a wonderful day!

It looks like you had a great day (weekend) with all these musicians playing in these little streets and corners. Just had to check if they had a website, and they do! (https://festivalsulayr.es/). What kind music do your friends play?

They have their own style really. A mix of traditional Spanish and South American with an Arabic feel as well. Xxx
