Rising Appalachia (TTT)

I listen, to a lot of different types of music, it depends on my mood really. However, I have got to a place in my life, where I only want to listen to empowering music, to music that inspires me. That is promoting unity and positivity. Music that I can relate to. Music that inspires my children. They hear everything that I listen to and I love to hear them sing along, to empowering music.

Today for Three Tune Tuesday, I want to share the music of Rising Appalachia. Two sisters, that sing and harmonise so well together, as well as play the following instruments. The Banjo, the Violin the Guitar and the Bodhran. They began as a duo, but now h ave a full band behind them.

Together, they create such a beautiful mix of Folk music, storytelling and Grassroots activism. So much of their music, sends a powerful message, whilst also celebrating life.

If you have read any of my other TTT posts, you'll know that I do love the Tiny Desk Concerts and 3 years ago Rising Appalachia got to perform on there. I had been waiting for this, as I knew they woukd be amazing and also that it woukd help them reach a wider audience.

They performed three songs for this concert. Three of my favourites, so I had to share it.

The first one is "Resilient" and this is how it starts....

I am resilient
I trust the movement
I negate the chaos
Uplift the negative
I’ll show up at the table, again and again and again
I’ll close my mouth and learn to listen

Its such an uplifting song, right from the get go. Plus I love me some Banjo, add in a Bodhran and was hooked. Those two instruments are meant to be played together. Then their voices come in, lifting you up and away you fly. Each verse, more empowering than the last.

Then it's time for "Medicine", in every sense of the word. This is perhaps one if my very favourites although it's hard to choose really, as they have created such wonderful music.

But this song, speaks to me so strongly.

Wise men say that rushing is violence
And so is your silence
When its rooted in compliance
To stand firm in loving defiance,
Make art your alliance
Give voice to the fire.

Then finally we "Cuckoo", this is an old Appalachia song, that their mother introduced them to. They added their own flair and you can really see their passion for folklore shine through, as they perform it, the whole band is amazing. You can see that they love to play together. This is just such a fun song, with a little Irish influence in there as well.
