Hiking to the center of the earth in Ialomita Cave in Dâmbovița County, Romania
As you are probably used to by now, I love discovering hidden but spectacular places and bringing them to you, but if you have ever been to Romania, you may have noticed that my country has no shortage of natural beauty.
Let's discover the hidden treasure in the Bucegi Mountains.
Ialomitei Cave is also known as Kings Cave is located in Dambovita County at an altitude of 1560m, the temperature inside is constant and has somewhere around 5-6 degrees.
Visiting hours are from 9 am to 6 pm in summer and from 9 am to 4 pm in winter, and the distance that can be visited inside is 480 meters.
The price of an adult ticket is 15lei/3euro.
Here you can find more detailed information about this cave.
If you happen to be in the area and want to visit this cave, know that there is a huge parking lot nearby so you can drive here.
Here we arrived by car, there weren't many cars in the parking lot (a little later we realized why), we left the car behind and started the hike to the cave entrance.
On the way we found some signs showing some very interesting mountain trails but unfortunately today we didn't have time to do one so we concentrated on getting to visit the cave.
Walking on the road through the forest I asked someone about the visiting hours of the cave and it seems that access to the cave closes in about 30 minutes, so I hurried the pace because the distance from the parking lot to the cave entrance is over 20 minutes.
We could have opted to go to the cave by horse-drawn cart, but we like to move around and live on the edge, hehe, the cost of a seat in the horse-drawn cart was 10 lei/2euro per person.
After about 20 minutes of walking through amazing landscapes we arrive in front of a huge portal with a monastery at the entrance, we stayed a few seconds on the spot admiring what we saw in front of us.
To enter the cave we had to somehow pass through the monastery courtyard, but access to the cave is only with protective equipment (helmet).
Visiting the cave is done on your own, there is no guide on request, however to understand what we see in the cave we have information boards in Romanian, English and French.
Start exploring one of the most beautiful caves in Romania.
By the way, wearing a helmet is extremely useful, you don't even want to know how many times I hit my head on the ceiling of the cave, this is also due to the route through the cave, which is sometimes only 1.5 meters.
The inside of the cave is spectacular, with large halls, narrower ones and right at the end of the trail is an underground river that forms an amazing waterfall, visiting the cave took us more than an hour because we stopped often for photos.
Let's take a few steps inside the cave.
The whole route through the Ialomita Cave is very spectacular and if you follow it you will be safe and you will be able to admire the beauty of nature.
We also visited the interior of the monastery for a few moments.
After visiting the cave on the way back to the parking lot we stopped at the stalls we found on the way and bought some food, namely something traditional, langos with cheese and cream, delicious.
My dear visitors, the exploration of the Ialomita caves has come to an end and do not forget if you visit the Bucegi mountains and pass through Dambovita county, you will not regret it.
