Cat Stevens Anniversary- My Actifit Report Card: March 10 2023
On 10 March 1967 "Matthew and Son", the debut album by the great British musician Cat Stevens, was released. The album was a critical and commercial success in the UK and helped launch Stevens into a major musical career as one of Britain's leading figures of the late 1960s and 1970s.
"Matthew and Son" contains songs composed primarily during his youth and teenage years in which Cat Stevens blends pop-rock and folk, with very introspective and reflective lyrics about everyday issues of life and love. The album's title track and first single is a social critique of life in the big cities and the pressure on people to achieve material success.
The recording of the album featured some of the best session musicians of the time, including bassist John Paul Jones, who would later become part of Led Zeppelin.
