Greetings Hive and Vibes community, I hope you're all doing great! I'm quite excited to participate again in this 37th week of Vibes, thanks to everyone for the previous support in Vibes week 36, grateful to @lordbutterfly and their team for the honor.
This week, I bring you a Jazz standard, 'It Don't Mean a Thing' by Duke Ellington, which was originally composed in the Jazz Swing genre, a very fast jazz genre and performed vocally by a great woman named Ella Fitzgerald. She's a singer who made history with her interpretations and for popularizing 'Scat,' which is making melodies with the voice similar to instrumental solos, just like what you'll hear in my performance.
Although this song was composed in a particular genre, today I want to share my interpretation in the Gypsy Jazz genre. It's also a fast genre, which is a variation of jazz. Gypsy Jazz is one of my favorite jazz genres because it focuses on simpler melodies from the instruments, and phrases that sound like song lyrics with a motif and a pattern. It's certainly not easy to play either, but in this jazz genre, there's a stronger intention to communicate an experience through the melodies.
The characteristic rhythm of Gypsy Jazz is 'la pompe,' these are its most common beats, and that's what you'll hear throughout the entire performance. 'La pompe' is generated by the lack of percussive instruments in the music, with the harmonic instruments themselves generating it to mark the tempo and style.
Without further ado, I hope you enjoy it! Thanks, Hive community!!!
